We had the good fortune of connecting with annah pierson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi annah, what are you inspired by?
I would have to say I’m inspired by my Grandma! Ever since i was little she always had a disposable camera in hand and would take pictures of everyone at all times. my greatest memory with her was sitting at the kitchen table going through the loads of pictures she had and she would tell a story with almost every single picture she took. that memory is probably my greatest throughout my childhood and it definitely kickstarted something in me to want to be able to do the same. i want to share a story with every photo that i take so that other people have the same opportunity with their friends and family to tell the story behind the scene.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
my art is something that i hold close to my heart. i love capturing a moment and sharing it with the client and seeing the “oh my god is this actually me” on their faces. something that i’m proud about is that i’ve been trying to start doing photography since i was about 12 and im finally making it now that im 20. i got here because i have the most amazing support group imaginable, they’ve always held me up when i couldn’t have on my own and they push me everyday to be better. of course starting a business isn’t easy, regardless of what you’re doing but if you truly love what you do then you’ll make it work. when challenges starting coming my way when i was younger id put the camera down and now that im older i try to look at the positive side and see what i can do differently to improve. i think the biggest lesson that ive learned is how to say no. ive had to tell a lot of people no because they wanted either free shoots, they were disrespectful, or didn’t appreciate the art that i make. i truly do have to stand up for myself and treat myself with respect when nobody else will. i want the world to know that this isn’t a hobby for me, this truly is something that im passionate about and am trying my hardest to spread the joy that this brings me. my entire heart and soul is tied to this business and i feel like you can see that.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
for boulder i would say some of my places to eat would be boychik, i would make a trip there atleast once a week and i absolutely love avanti for their diversity. we would go to pearl street mall and peruse all of the different small businesses that have came together. we would also go into the mountains because it has brought me great peace since moving across the country.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
there’s a lot of people that i can thank for this journey. my grandma for starting it, my dad for helping me get through the financial struggles of it, my boyfriend for pushing me to continue even when it seems impossible, and dani bush (best business consultant ever) for helping me set myself up for success, and a good friend who introduced me to other photographers that have supported and helped me along the way
