Meet Benton Crane | Musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Benton Crane and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Benton, how do you think about risk?
As intimidating as risk taking can be, I think it is crucial to a successful career. Once I realized that I can’t please everyone with my music, I feel as though I have been able to embody more of who I am as an artist and own my unique sound and vision as an artist.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Making a career out creating music is certainly not easy, but for me I don’t feel like I can do anything else. It feels like a calling- so I do my best to channel my soul into each song. Music has always been such a close friend to me and there are countless songs and artists that have done so much for me through their music. My goal has always been to return the favor in a sense. Even one person finding solace, or comfort, or support, in my music is a victory. At the same time, I try to walk through the fear of really throwing myself into my music and how I present it to the world. It takes a level of vulnerability that feels scary at first, but I think that is truly what makes a difference in reaching people and having a positive impact.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There is so much that Colorado has to offer so that is a tough one. We would definitely spend some time camping in the mountains- maybe Rocky Mountain National Park to take in some breathtaking views. Then head to Denver and spend a few hours at Meow Wolf – an incredibly abstract and otherworldly interactive art exhibit. You can’t visit Colorado without catching a concert at Red Rocks so that would certainly make the cut as well.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank friends and former bandmates Andrew Krist and Hayes Laporte for their contributions on some of my songs. Also very thankful for my former bandmates in Ice Station Zebra and Manic Vision because without them I don’t think I’d be the musician I am today. And of course my mastering engineers Alex Johnston and Mat Leffler Schulman for their great work.
