We had the good fortune of connecting with Anne Holzem and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anne, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I always loved taking pictures. My kids mean the world to me and we all know they just grow up way too fast. With a blink of the eye they are growing, changing, every day they are learning something new. I wanted to hold on to those moments. Remembering these special moments and share them with my girls when they are older. Pictures and Videos are the only way to truly remember that moment. After my grandparents passed, it was so hard for me and not a single day goes by where I don’t wish I had more memories and pictures of them!
I want to be there for others that are looking to create memories with pictures that they can cherish forever.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started working with children when I was 13 and at the age of 17 I received my degree in early childhood education. I have been working with children ever since and I love it! When my daughters were born, I always loved taking pictures of them. Four years ago, I met a Newborn Photographer and was in awe with the idea of photographing newborns. The smallest, youngest human and I have the honor to meet and keep memories to love forever. I wanted to learn and I wanted to become one of the best. I took many classes, learned about equipment, posing and safety. I also met with a few pediatricians and midwifes. I want to give my customers the best memories. Some didn’t believe in me at the beginning of my journey. There were times I asked myself if I should keep going. I was living in a really small village, bigger cities further away. Not to mention, starting your business can be expensive. I wanted to have everything here in my studio and quality was a must! Parents should not worry about a thing. My goal was to make their visit a relaxed, unforgettable time. They will look back and remember the session with a smile. Last year I got to meet and learn from one amazing Photographer. She is one of the best international Maternity and Newborn Photographers. I learned to fight for my dreams, reach for the stars and my dreams came true. I have earned several awards internationally. Only you can make it happen.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I moved to Monument, Colorado last August and I miss my friends and family a great deal. I want to show them everything I’ve seen so far, take them for hikes in the mountains, show them the painted mines out east. A drive up to Pikes Peak and a pick-nick by a quiet reservoir in the mountains are a must. Garden of the Gods is a must and maybe the Waterpark in Denver. I want to show them different restaurants we have to offer in the area and also just sit in our backyard and enjoy nature around us.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Definitely my family and my friends! My husband and children are always there for me, understanding my late night hours. They supported every decision I made and helped me archive my goals. Together we built my studio and my dream came true. Even when I didn’t believe in myself, they believed! It’s always easy to give up. Fighting for your dreams is what makes them worth it when they come true! I have amazing friends, that pushed me, supported me, taught me, I am so grateful to have then. Three of my friends are also Maternity & Newborn Photographers and are amazing. They encouraged me, helped me and I just love the friendship we build. Also a big thank you to my mentor Ana Brandt. Without any of whom, I would not be Anne Holzem Photography. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
