Meet April “Angel” Cain

We had the good fortune of connecting with April “Angel” Cain and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi April “Angel”, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I think I have pursued a creative career because I love seeing peoples face light up at the different things I create. I used to just make things for myself, family and friends. Then I thought why not sell stuff, so others can be happy too. I try to not make the same thing everytime. I rarely make copies of stuff unless its for a wedding or special event and even then I try to make the smallest changes for each person. Everyone is unique and special and I think they should have something just as unique and special as them.
Yes I use basic molds for the resin, but each one is colored and crafted with someone in mind. I do the same with my jewelry and other crafts.
I want to the individual that buys something from me to feel as if its was made just for them, even if it was not a custom order.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m an eclectic artist. I’m find inspiration in so many different things. The people and the world around me. When I was younger I used to write poems, short fantasy stories and draw. As I got older I couldn’t find inspiration for those things anymore so I began to make jewelry. I would be inspired by other peoples beautiful work and would try and make my own versions (on a serious budget).
The more I made the more I challenged myself to make my own things.
I would gift or sell my items to friends for way under cost.
I finally decided to sell on Etsy and have been for what seems like a lifetime now. Having an Etsy shop is not without its hardships but for now it works for me.
I used to actually have two shops. One was what I would call “vanilla” as it was just jewelry, trinkets and painted wood boxes. I had a second one that was more “adult” related with items made from leather.
I know have everything in one shop, hence the name Nyx’s Naughty and Nice.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When my bestie Kelley comes to visit, we would actually spend more of our time at home cooking and simply hanging out and probably making angel charms and other crafts. Because of medical issues she cannot go hiking or anything strenuous but we would still have an amazing time just being around each other.
HOWEVER, I would take her to Garden of the Gods and Manitou Springs. I want her to see the cute little shops and the amazing wonders of the GOG.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout is to my family and best friends. My husband, Greg, my daughters Khya and Amber, my whole family and my two best friends Charity and Kelley.
All of these wonderful people never let me quit when I felt I wasn’t getting anywhere. They kept telling me that all good things happen when they are meant to happen.
Kelley is my cheering squad and shares all my posts with everyone she knows.
Charity reminds me of all the smiles I have created and gives me some amazing ideas sometimes.
My husband, children and the rest of my family let me know its okay to get frustrated and that I just need to breath,
Without this support system, I don’t think I would have gotten this far and done this much. Each time I sell something whether online or at an event, I am grateful for them all.
