We had the good fortune of connecting with Artist Name: Who’s Calling Individual Names: James Edmunds, Michael Bolland and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Artist Name: Who’s Calling, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk is what makes music so magical. Artists are constantly trying new things and it’s the new ideas that lead to creating something spectacular. It can be overwhelming to think about, and can sometimes even hold artists back. At times we put ourselves outside of our comfort zone, but we know that we won’t keep improving as musicians if we don’t take chances. We have a lot of fun continuing to experiment with our sound and playing around with new concepts.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Although both of us are working full time jobs, we both found a passion for music that has grown throughout the years. It has allowed us to not only have a creative outlet, but it has helped us explore the music community and make lifelong friends. What sets us apart is our vision of what our project should be and our ability to create the sound we want. We play off of each other’s strengths and have a great team supporting us to help bring our project to life. We’ve learned quite a bit throughout this project, including communication, time management, problem solving, and focusing on individual goals while also seeing the the big picture. We want to create music that pulls out emotion, tells stories, and makes you get on your feet and dance. We have a lot to learn but have enjoyed every step of the process and are excited for the road ahead.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We attended the University of Denver and loved the city so much we stayed after graduation. Our favorite spots around town include Denver Central Market for food, LoHi and Rino for drinks, and Wash park for hanging out. If you were visiting for the weekend, we’d encourage you to visit/hike around Red Rocks.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We wouldn’t be able to do what we love without the support of our friends and family. We are extremely blessed to have people in our lives who believe in us, our vision, and our music. Both of our parents deserve huge recognition, starting both of us out playing instruments from a young age. Michael’s parents started him off with Guitar and Trumpet and James’ parents started him off with Guitar and Piano. We believe that has been a huge contributing factor in why we love making music
