Meet Ashley Miller

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk is something that is inherent in business and a life well lived. Risk seems scary because the consequence may be failure, something that we do not enjoy or are accustomed to. I have always prioritized living life as fearlessly as possible. In my personal life, I enjoy adrenaline junkie things like skydiving, climbing mountains, and bungee jumping. Every time I try something scary and new I say to myself or my friends “What do we do when we’re scared? We do it scared.” I want to lead an adventurous life where I try everything I can and dive in head first. In my work life this means saying “yes” to every opportunity. When I was younger I wanted to try everything; I worked in the wedding industry, as a flight attendant, and in food service. This allowed me to learn my strengths and weaknesses and dive fearlessly when I was ready to start my career in veterinary medicine. Since beginning in the field in 2020, saying “yes” has been a big part of my career. I have gotten to do an internship in Zoo Med, work in Emergency and ICU care, and now work as a practice owner. Saying “yes” to the next thing is scary but it allows us to keep growing. Each failure is an opportunity to build yourself back stronger. My career has not been without it, but each time has allowed me to take a more confident step into the hard work of the next risk. One of my favorite quotes by Churchill sums up my thoughts on risk, “success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts.”

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Roaming Veterinary Team is a group of veterinary technicians providing compassionate care in the Colorado Springs area. As the first veterinary business of our kind in the Pikes Peak Front Range, we have a unique goal and set of services available to our community. We want to bridge the gap between the need for more veterinary care, busy hospitals, and patients with unique needs. This year, Colorado constituents voted to pass a VPA bill, signaling that our communities are in desperate need of accessible and affordable care. Roaming Veterinary Team is our answer to that call. We are mobile and roam to our client’s homes. Our priority is engaging our community of passionate pet owners with an empathetic understanding of their needs. Anxious dogs, senior dogs, senior owners, and so many more need a service that can provide convenience without losing quality of care. We are incredibly thankful for the response we have had from our community since launching March 31st. We have been busy since, and have had the incredible opportunity to meet with other primary care vets in the area to set them up with our referral services. By partnering with local practices, we get to ensure that there is increased owner compliance and patient care when pets leave their annual appointment and go home. We are excited to see how our new budding business grows and evolves in the years to come.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Our ideal Colorado Springs weekend with friends in town starts with Garden of the Gods. We are incredibly blessed to have the beautiful landscape of red rocks in front of one of my favorite 14ers. I love to take people on morning hikes at Red Rock Open Space, and in Cheyenne Canyon. After a morning hike we grab coffee at Loyal or Frankly, two wonderful local spots. If we want brunch we typically go to 503W so the dogs can sit outside with us. We are blessed to live walking distance to Old Colorado City’s downtown where I love to visit the farmer’s market in Bancroft Park and can show visitors around the historic neighborhood. Our favorite lunch and dinner spots are those where we can take the pups and sit outside. Some of our favorites are Red Leg Brewing, Cerberus, Street Car 520 and Coati. For late night hangs we enjoy Shrunken Head Tiki and Icons.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe this opportunity to grow and own part of Roaming Veterinary Team to Doctors Kelly and Rob Hutchison. They own White Whiskers Aging Pet Care as well as being a part of RVT, I am incredibly thankful for their dedication to care for our furry companions.
