We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Wilder and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
By being an entrepeneur and working mom I’m teaching my kids you can have both a successful career and be there for your children at the same time. I want them to know there are options outside of the traditional 9-5.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I specialize in newborns but that leads into photographing families as they grow. I’m planning to incorporate family travel sessions into my workflow. I want to photograph families in beautiful places. I want their photo experience to be just that, an experience. They’ll always remember that hike up the mountain or the time the photographer let them play and just be themselves. It hasn’t been easy finding balance between raising my kids and having a career but I’ve learned that each season in life may require more in one area and so I lean into that and take it for what it is, temporary. I hope I can inspire other mothers to create their art in a way that supports their family.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Garden of the Gods. It’s such a unique area and is perfect for taking photos!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband has always been my biggest supporter. He has faith in me even when I don’t have it in myself. He was the one who encouraged me to leave my medical job and pursue photography.
