We had the good fortune of connecting with Audria Rayne Turnbull and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Audria Rayne, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my business in April 2020, and it began with social media. After seeing an ad for a beautiful pair of clay earrings, I did what most would do and I went to etsy shop and browsed through their designs. Although this specific business had very beautiful jewelry, I didn’t think that the pricing was fully worth product. So I did some research on how to make polymer clay earrings, and stated to look at the pricing it costs to make the jewelry. After weeks of research I finally decided to try making the earrings myself, and let me tell you, it was not as easy as it looked. But I was determined to make beautiful and affordable clay jewelry. After a few weeks of many failed attempts, we finally came up with some really pretty earrings (or so we thought at the time.) And even though they were really pretty, the fear of not selling a single pair was always on my mind. But my husband convinced me to just go for it and list my earrings on etsy, and I am so glad I did!!! Now over a year later not only do I have a new find love of making affordable jewelry but I have been able to meet so many amazing ladies and friends. The earring designs went from very basic to now such unique pieces of art for anyone to enjoy. I’m truly so happy I took that first step.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have always had a love for art, but it wasn’t until recently that I began to pursue a form of art as my full time career. Before this I was active duty Army. Although I am incredibly grateful I had the opportunity to serve my country, I needed to pursue a career that had a better work life balance. So I began the transition to corporate America and find a company I absolutely love. But near the beginning of the pandemic, as many I began to work from home so I began my small business. I have always been sort of a perfectionist, which has truly helped with making jewelry. I will work until each pair of earring is as close to prefect as can be. And although creating is what I am talented in, I am also a little bit introverted. Which has been my biggest obstacle within this business. But I have grown to be much more confident and comfortable with this business with each interaction I have.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We are not natives to Colorado, but this has surely become home for us. If my best friend was visiting, some of places we would eat is at some of our favorite dinners, Black Bear Dinner, The Denver Biscuit Co, and Bon Tons, and for lunch and dinner as many breweries as possible, like the Rocky Mountain Brewery and the beautiful Bristol Brewery. For fun activities I’d take her visit Garden of the God’s, any local markets, and to take a stroll thru Old Town Colorado Springs. This city has so many fun and beautiful places.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My business would not be where it is today without my amazing husband, sister, and the amazing people who have supported my small business. My husband has helped me from day one. From actually sitting at the table with me and making earrings, to his amazing business and marketing ideas, to helping me make trips to the post office, and helping me at every one of our vendor events. I wouldn’t be able to do this without all of his time and support. My sister, she has always helped me with design ideas, the one who will give me the honest truth if a design is a bad idea and always has the best advice. And to each and every amazing person who has purchased jewelry or referred a friend. Their support is what keeps me creating. Thank you all!
