We had the good fortune of connecting with Barbara Glanznig and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Barbara, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Growing up in rural Austria, access to exquisite, healthy and natural foods was never a problem. Now, living in the United States, good quality food is hard to come by. Ghee has become such a healthy staple in my diet and I wanted to share a product of extraordinary quality with my community and beyond.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My career started very differently, as I pursued law in my twenties but figured out very quickly that that was not the path I wanted to walk. So after graduating law school and couple of years of legal work in Austria, I packed up my bags and basically moved to the United States. I spent a lot of time in Colorado and reconnected to my Ashtanga Yoga practice, made a lot of lifestyle changes and gave myself a little time to figure out what to do next. Food and cooking always came naturally and soon enough I began cooking for people and teaching yoga. I also started traveling to India annually to connect to the source of my practice and there I was exposed to Ayurvedic cooking, Ayurvedic treatments, music, philosophy and everything in between. Because I began to experience the benefits of yoga and Ayurveda myself, I started making Ghee for friends and family and this is really how GLÂNZ was born. From there, it grew and during COVID, I decided to start selling commercially.
My intention is to share with the world the sacred traditions that my teachers generously shared with me and create foods of exceptional quality.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Telluride is a small town in the San Juan Mountains and I would take my friends hiking, then to Cafe Bruno on Main Street, take them to Practice Telluride for yoga, meditation and everything in between. If we go out, we would go to La Cocina de Luz, or just purchase fresh produce at the local Farmers Market and then cook up a storm at home.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It all started with my granny, who, at 94, is still a wizard in the kitchen and just cooked and baked with me when I was a kid. Ayurvedic and Sattvic cooking, especially Ghee making, I really learnt from my mentor and dear friend Annie Pace. She is the queen of sattvic foods and I am so grateful she generously shares recipes and her time in the kitchen with me. GLÂNZ would have never been born without the help and support of my friends, especially Gabe Zoline, who had this incredible vision of how the brand should look like, designed my website and labels and really got me started. And on a daily basis its customers, friends and family who believe in what I do, who love food and support me every step of the way.
