We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Towell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kevin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process was essentially one thing: I wanted to work for myself…make my own hours, build my own name and control my own schedule. I had worked for a number of other development companies, remodeling companies, Builders, etc. I watched from behind the scenes for a number of years and noticed the things the owners were doing to cut corners and piss clients off. I thought to myself “I can do this better”.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I own a residential remodeling and renovation company. We are called Mile High Masters Remodeling, and we serve the Denver Metro area. We started out in Thornton but now we are based in Commerce city. Starting a remodeling company is a tough build up. You think “I know remodeling very well this will be easy”. What you don’t realize is there is sales involved, you need to know your way around computer programs for making estimates and contracts, design, advertising your company, book keeping, social media presence, creating accounts with dozens of companies for material purchases, getting different contractor licenses for permitting, thousands in tools you’ll need, trucks, vans, finding the right guys you can trust and at the end of the day having a good product for your clients. All-in-All the remodeling industry isn’t the easiest or simplest business out there. You have to know a lot about a lot. BUT it is a rewarding business. I have put my blood, sweat and tears into Mile High Masters Remodeling and I’m extremely proud of how far this business has come. I’ve met many great people and have had a lot clients turn into friends. For anyone starting out their own business no matter what it is I would tell them to just take it 1 day at a time and try not to let yourself get overwhelmed. One thing that separates us from the others out there (besides our flawless to products!) is such a simple concept that most business owners over look and that’s communication. There’s so many times where I’m talking to a client and they’re telling me a horror story of a past experience they had with a contractor and I hear these stories every week. We make sure to stay in communication with our clients on a daily baises to go over whatever project we’re on. I just feel like if you always keep that line of communication open you won’t have any surprises at the end. There is no greater feeling in this business then to have a client ecstatic at the end of their project.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was in town visiting I’d try and catch a concert at Red Rocks- there aren’t many venues like Red stocks anywhere else in the country and it’s a must see. I’m a big hibachi guy and one of my favorite restaurants is Mt. Fuji over in the Orchard Town Center in Westminster so we would have to grab a dinner there. I’d take him up for a day or two of skiing/snowboarding in Keystone, Co. It’s a beautiful and fairly short drive from Denver and we’d stop in Idaho Springs at BeauJo’s Pizza because that’s a must have in Colorado. If he was feeling frisky I’d take him up to Black Hawk and show him our mini Vegas we have in here and we o wrap it up we’d head over to Pikes Peak to get the best view in the state.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out my Family. We were a family of 3 when I started this business and now we’re a family of 5! Thank you guys for standing by me through the long days and even longer nights. You sacrificed weekends, evenings, and so many family moments while I worked to get Mile High Masters Back to modeling off the gound.. Your love, patience, and unwavering support carried me through every challenge, and I couldn’t have reached where I am today without you— this success is ours.
