We had the good fortune of connecting with Ben Atkinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ben, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I think the thing that stands out the most when we talk with our clients is our ability to solve problems and offer solutions when unexpected issues arise. We have put a lot of effort into cultivating a developmental mindset throughout the company, so whenever we are faced with a problem or issue with a project we see it as an opportunity to expand our skillset rather than a hindrance or an obstacle. Many times we have found creative ways to solve problems that have contributed to making a project better than our clients expected, which has also helped to strengthen our relationships and build trust in ways that we otherwise might not have been able to. We consistently hear that our professionalism and communication are what separate us from the pack, and those attributes are never more on display than when we have to work with our client to overcome a problem together. That is something that has served us well and that we feel is an important part of our identity as well as our brand.

What should our readers know about your business?
What sets Natural Builders apart is our connection to our community and our commitment to the environment. We committed to planting at least 10,000 trees this year through our partnership with EcoDrive, and were able to plant our first 5,000 trees in early May. We also have a dashboard on our website where our clients can donate directly to EcoDrive and plant trees as well, and we will match any of those contributions that are made through our website. Planting trees is a great way to directly offset carbon emissions, and our dashboard shows exactly how much carbon we are offsetting through this initiative in real time. Collaborating with our clients in this way helps us to be connected to our community and work together as a force for change. That is something that we are very passionate about.

We also make all of the energy required to power our tools onsite using a portable solar generator. These are ways that we are trying to not only reduce our own impact but also raise awareness in the hopes that others in the industry will follow.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We love to go to all the sports games. Rockies, Broncos, Avalanche, we are fans of all of them. That’s where we spend most of our time in the city for sure.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There have been a lot of people who were willing to offer advice and support to me in the early years, and I don’t think that this company would have gotten off the ground without them. My parents were always there to listen and encourage me to keep up the effort, my clients (especially Larry Oakley, Jan Selinfreund, and Aaron Wooten) were very generous with their praise and referrals during a time when word of mouth was the only marketing I could afford, and my good friend and advisor Jon Drees was instrumental in helping me see the big picture of what this business could become with the right vision and guidance. I would like to thank all of them for believing in me and pushing me to continue working towards my goals. Shoutout to all of you, I appreciate you very much.
