We had the good fortune of connecting with Ben Treat and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ben, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I grew up in a family of creatives and growing up a moved all over the country and the world. In order to fill that time and have consistency I turned to art and quickly realized that I wouldn’t work a 9-5 job. I wanted to make my own scedual doing what I loved!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I focus on Stop Motion and even more specifically claymation. It’s an artform that is somewhat difficult to learn today as there are very few schools that even have classes in it. Most Stop motion artists today are self taught, including myself making it a bit of a unique artform that advertisers love to use! It wasn’t an “Easy” artform to learn but it was something I really enjoyed so all the time I spent animating, was relaxing and something I was excited to do! I have definitely learned that consistency is incredibly important when developing your abilities.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Fort Collins and was born and raised here, so a lot of my favorite places have sentimental value, like the restaurant Verns Place in Laporte Co, or the Silver Grill in Old Town Fort collins. I would probably go drive up Rist Canyon with them and come back along Horsetooth Dam.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents, who have been artist their whole lives, and are incredibly encouraging and helpful!
