We had the good fortune of connecting with Bergen Baucom and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bergen, how do you think about risk?
Being a (calculated) risk taker is one of the most defining characteristics of my life. Whether it was chasing my (then) dreams as a TV reporter and anchor in my 20s or moving across the country and carving out a new life for myself in my 30s, taking risks has taught me to always bet on myself. I’ve become comfortable with change and look back over my life with a sense of pride for my bravery when making big decisions. Taking risks has given me the freedom to concoct wild ideas in my mind’s eye and the audacity to chase them. 10/10 recommend.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Story Time! Looking back, I really think of my journey to BB CASA as a journey on a lifelong path. As a child, I always wanted to create and decorate. I’ve always been an artist, though I’ve never identified as so until recently. I’m so happy to be where I am today, and I believe sharing “The Journey” is important. It’s been anything but a straight line. I started my first business, an advertising company called Edgy Ads, at 14. However, my passion had long been for creating spaces, so I went to college in 2006 specifically to study interior design. Midway through my freshman year, life had other plans. After surviving an assault in 2007, I transferred schools and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in non-profit management and communications. I became a journalist and advocate for ending gender-based violence on a national and global scale. I worked in this space– in various capacities–for over a decade. All the while, I was decorating my home and my friends’ homes as a hobby.

Flash forward many years and a cross-country move, and the pandemic hits. Like many, I took the opportunity to reevaluate my long-term career goals. In October 2020, I launched BB CASA. We are a residential interior design studio and purveyor of bespoke homewares. All BB CASA products are humanely and ethically produced—from our all-natural soy candles that upcycle into vessels for our wildflower seed paper tags to our sustainably and responsibly sourced dishtowels.

In January of 2021, I decided to finish what I started in 2006 and enrolled at Rocky Mountian College of Art + Design. In the Spring of 2025, I will obtain my Bachelor of Fine Arts with a CIDA-accredited degree in Interior Design. After graduation, I plan to expand into furniture design and the restaurant and hospitality space.

My father (and mentor) often says, “Make the best decision you can with the information you have, then adjust as needed.” I’ve tried my best to do that throughout my career. It’s led to big risks but also to very exciting rewards.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oooh, I love this question! First, stay at the Catbird. It has the best vibe, the coolest rooms, and an incredible rooftop patio. Say no more, right? Obviously, you’ll catch a show at Red Rocks and a smaller local act at Larimer Louge. Let sunset drinks turn into dinner at El Five, and grab a nightcap at Forest Room 5. If you’re really looking to boogie, head over to Herb’s Hideout. Grab breakfast at Breakfast on Broadway or Snooze (I know it’s a chain, but it started here; the food is phenomenal, and the people are equally great) before hitting Broadway for thrift and vintage shopping. Grab lunch at a vegetarian restaurant, City O’ City– a little less meat never hurt anybody! Stop into Off the Bottle Soap and Refill Shop next door for fabulous, environmentally friendly home and body products. Swing into Iris next door for a piercing; if you’re feeling spicy, you rebel. Hit the Denver Art Museum and tour the Molly Brown House and Kirkland Museum. Meow Wolf is also a glorious time! Spend some time shopping in Cherry Creek and hit the shops on Tennyson Street. While you’re there, grab a loaded BBQ baked potato from Post Oak BBQ (Vegetarian fare and BBQ all in one trip– life’s about balance, right?). Download All Trails and take a hike in Golden. Grab a post-hike beer from the Golden Mill and Goosetown Station. Depending on the season, grab tickets to a sporting event! Additional restaurants I’d recommend:
Perdida Kitchen
Quality Italian
Illegal Petes (casual quick lunch)
Table Six
Curtis Park Deli (sandwiches for the hike with the BEST gluten-free bread!)
Uno Mas for tacos
Pete’s Central One (Mediterranean)
Fire on the Mountain
Littleman Ice Cream OR Sweet Action Ice Cream

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents. Mom and Dad have been my biggest cheerleaders all of my life. I am so lucky to have their unwavering support.

Neal, my boyfriend and best friend. We’ve been doing life together for quite a while now. Neal always has my back and challenges me in the best ways. BB CASA wouldn’t be what it is without his love, support, and willingness to work for free lol.

My friends! They’ve shared my card with neighbors and friends. They’ve supported me at markets and events. They’ve hired me to help with their own homes! I’m surrounded by women who support other women. They are smart, successful driven, and empathetic. I’m so lucky to have them!
