We had the good fortune of connecting with Bernadette Uzcategui and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bernadette, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
For me, the most important factor behind the success of Blueprint Society is aligning myself with the right people. Finding clients that see the value in clean marketing imagery and with whom I can connect on a professional and often personal level, makes the entire process feel seamless…like you are working with an old friend! We view the process not as a job, but as a collaboration and meeting of the minds.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think that one thing that sets BPS apart is the fact that I studied architecture before I became a full time photographer. I believe that field of study greatly shaped the way I compose my imagery, both as an art and as a deliverable client product. Another unique aspect of Blueprint Society is the client experience that we deliver. A huge percentage of my client base found me by word of mouth and continue to be repeat clients. It is such an honor to be a small part of a business person’s journey, so I treat every project with care and attention. As a creative, one lesson I have learned (and continue to learn!) is that everyone sees the world differently, and one cannot depend on others for validation or acceptance of your creative ideas. It is really hard to put yourself out there and present your ideas to the world. Not everyone will fall in love with your work. But those who do, are your people, your tribe! And truly, the process is much more rewarding personally than the product in almost all cases. The thing I am currently most proud of is the fact that BPS purchased and moved into a studio space last year. In a world undergoing so much change and uncertainty, we took a risk and it has been SO amazing! I have found that I am able to express my creativity and feel so connected to my studio….such a happy place and the realization of a life goal.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh great question! Here are a few of my favorites: Union station (shopping and hanging out) Acreage (sipping yummy cider while taking in breathtaking views) Pearl Street, boulder pizzeria locale (best pizza EVER)
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My biggest shoutout goes to my best friend and husband, Adrian. Without his support and encouragement, I unquestionably would not be where I am today, living this dream life!
