Meet Brandi Martinez | Owner and Stylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandi Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandi, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always loved the beauty industry, though a few years into my job at a traditional salon, I developed an allergy to the chemicals used to color hair. I knew I could never leave the industry entirely, so I decided to create an environment that was safe for not only me, but also my clients. With that, I created Blush, a dry bar salon that focuses on the quality of products and services such as styling, makeup application, lash extensions, lash tinting, and waxing.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Blush is a niche salon, focused on hairstyling, makeup, and lash extensions. We are proud of our team based culture and beautifully renovated space. Getting to where we are today took a lot of networking. From bridal shows, to vendor happy hours, and engagement with the local community, we have been able to build a business that supports over 10 employees and executes nearly 300 weddings per year. We knew that this would not come easily, but nothing worth it ever does. Practicing resilience and a positive mindset is key for business obstacles. I have learned many things along the way since starting Blush. The most important thing is building a strong team of like-minded individuals, because no business is anything without the team.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When my best friend is in town, her trip would be filled with daily hikes through locations like Cheyenne Canyon and Red Rocks open space. Of course we would reward ourselves after the hike with brunch at some of my favorite spots like Shuga’s and Urban Egg. Who can say no to avocado toast and mimosas?! After brunch, we would stop by my favorite boutiques such as Eve’s Revolution, Fab’rik and Terra Verde. Obviously we would be leaving with our arms full of shopping bags, which means we need to rest. The evening would consist of ordering take-out from some of my favorite local spots like Stellina and La’au’s Taco Shop.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Wow, where do I even begin! My husband, Joe, has encouraged and supported me more than I could ever have imagined. He helped me network and get in front of the right people. I also love to read! One of my favorite authors, Brene Brown focuses on vulnerability and fear, as it relates to leadership. Lastly, my experience at the Center for Creative Leadership has also helped in learning things about myself to be a better leader. I still have friends in the program!
