We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Naughton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandon, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
In starting Truce Media we envisioned a brand and company that was human-centric, focused on building a Member Owned Movie Studio and creating what we call Fair Trade Filmmaking. Sustainability is key and in the world of entertainment, many creatives simply work from job to job. We are building an environment that encourages both entrepreneurism and creative labor, attracting top talent from around the country, while the mission and vision build strong client relationships that fund the foundation. When starting your own business, it is important to recognize problems that you can solve that you are really passionate about and really spend the time to create a name and brand that will resonate with your audience. In today’s world, there is a lot of noise along with opportunity and it’s important that you stick out and provide maximum clarity on what you are trying to achieve and why.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I actually came from Florida to Colorado in 2002, graduating from the University of Colorado Denver in 2003. Since then I have worked with Starz, Lionsgate, HBO, Showtime, NBC Universal, Comcast, Olympic Channel, and more. I am always connecting with people and believe building relationships is the key. I am most proud of building a team of professionals that certainly makes me better in all areas and am excited to continue growth of our team. In regards to being easy, I would say that our industry tends to be “dog-eat-dog” and creates an environment where many people are simply looking to exploit creatives. At Truce Media, we are establishing a high value brand that benefits creatives with stability in great pay and benefits while focused on pushing the boundaries on original content creation.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Colorado really has so many incredible places to visit and see. If you were going to spend a week here, I think you start in the city and spend a day downtown taking in the 16th street mall, catching a Rockies game and in general experiencing the nightlife downtown. You should certainly head over to Golden where the downtown is fun, you can hop on a tube on the river, and have a great meal at the Buffalo Rose. I would then spend an evening up in Blackhawk if you have a group and see some of the historical western buildings and even cemeteries are amazing to see. Obviously there is plenty of mountain biking or skiing available up in the mountains where most locals stick to Breckenridge and Copper Mountain. Some longer drive locations, yet worth it, to visit are Strawberry Springs where you can spend a day in Steamboat Springs and then soak in the most invigorating natural hot spring mixed with the river. All that said, you can loop back down into Denver and have a little fun at Meow Wolf to get plenty of crazy selfies on the way out.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Truce Media wouldn’t be here without the support and efforts of Tim Jones, Ben Fout, Josh Dillard, and Julie Jackson. We also would not be as far along in our mission without Ashley Ortiz from the Rocky Mountain Employee Ownership Center. It was important for us to simplify bringing on impactful people to Truce Media and we have worked tirelessly to create clarity in order to scale what we see as a Renaissance in the Film / TV industry. Carrie Singer at the Denver Economic Development Office & International Trade along with Nikki Maloney and Paul Bindel have also been essential in guidance and opportunities. We want to say a huge thank you to everyone that has connected with us and influenced our journey.
