We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandy and Leo Nunes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandy and Leo, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
Don’t have a “Plan B.” It’s all or nothing on your dreams. Having a Plan B only helps plant doubt in your mind that things may not work out, giving you a way out when times get tough. Being an entrepreneur is not easy. You’ll want to quit – sometimes multiple times in a day. Keep moving forward. You will fail at times but no matter what – stick to Plan A.
What should our readers know about your business?
Six years ago we experienced an over $10,000 out of pocket with our medical insurance. Today, we are still paying off that debt. We knew there had to be better, more affordable way. That life event inspired us to start our own insurance agency designed around the individual’s needs and not the health insurance company’s. We founded Nunes Partners on the idea that people should be able to design their own healthcare protection. No two people have the same health so why should they have the same health coverage? Nunes Partners works with each client to customize their health coverages using affordable, nontraditional programs – instead of being forced into a one-size-fits-all traditional plan. We partner with some of the most innovative companies in the industry to offer full solutions including health, life, and retirement. We build a safety net around your healthcare and a financial safety net around you.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There is so much to see in Colorado. We’ve played Tour Guide for houseguests a lot since moving here. We love exploring and being outdoors so here is a list of our favorite excursions, in no particular order: hiking in Garden of the Gods, sandboarding at Sand Dunes National Park, camping in Indian Peaks Wilderness, fishing the Arkansas, climbing the stairs at Bishops Castle, soaking in the Hot Springs, and driving up Pikes Peak. We’ll be hungry from all the exploring so food stops will include: Roll Up @ 301 Main, Slice 420 Pizza in Old Colorado City, Arlene’s Beans in Monument, The Rabbit Hole in Downtown, Paninos Eastside, Havana Grill on South Academy, Edelweiss in Downtown, Taste of Brasil on Garden of the Gods, and all the Food Truck Rallies. There is so much beauty in this state. We are so grateful to call Colorado home!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The Colorado Springs entrepreneur community has been essential to our business. There is such great support and encouragement for each other. When we launched our business, we attended a lot of networking events, joined several local Chamber of Commerce organizations, and got involved with community groups like 1 Million Cups to build relationships with other small businesses. We really wanted people to trust us. Those relationships and their support have kept us moving forward.
