We had the good fortune of connecting with Brayden DeMorest-Purdy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brayden, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Good question. I’ve always believed risk taking is a crucial aspect in the path of success. It is always good to try new things, and listen to your gut. As a filmmaker, risk taking is part of the game. Even if the risk is sometimes calculated. When you make a movie, there is risk involved both from a creative and business perspective. Enjoying and respecting the process of what you are doing, and accepting the fact that you won’t know unless you try is something very important to me. Of course, not all risks will bring reward, But when they do, it is worth it. Anyone with a passion for anything they are doing should be willing to take the risks that come along the way. Bet on yourself.

Risks will come with anything you do in life, so you might as well take the risks that come with what you love to do.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Growing up I fell in love with Cinema. Watching movies and going to the Cinema with my brother Griffen has always been a fond memory for me. And still something we do together today. Escaping into the worlds told on screen is something I cherish. The ability to tell stories through film is amazing. Movies bring people together.

I’ve always looked to filmmakers like Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Christopher Nolan, Denis Villeneuve, and Neill Blomkamp, and their ability to craft such amazing stories, and tell them in such a unique visual way.

I personally love to make psychological thrillers, and dramas. Anything that can make an audience think. What sets me apart from others, is my unique directing style. I love camera movements. I like using the camera to emphasize the tone/ theme of the scene. Along with long takes/ oners. Long/ slow push-ins seem to be my signature.

The only thing to say for how I got where I am today is: “Never Give Up” There will always be challenges along the way when you follow your dreams. But you can never let it stop you from achieving your goals.

I want the world to know that I never give up. “Never Stop Dreaming, Always Dream Big.”

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The list of people that deserve recognition for supporting my career is not short. But to spare your readers their time, I will keep this brief.

My family, friends, twin brother Griffen, and my partner in life Nina have always been such a continuous support for my love of filmmaking and movie watching. I love you all. Thank you.
