We had the good fortune of connecting with Liz Giorgi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Liz, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The question of what or who you attribute your success to can be a long and complicated answer for most people. But my answer is really easy. It’s my people. soona simply would not be what it is today without the tenacity and brilliance of every photographer, sidekick, marketer, or developer at our company. We’ve come as far as we have because we’ve assembled a diverse team in backgrounds and experiences. My co-founder, Hayley Anderson, and I want to ensure our team feels supported, inspired, and like we are all in this together. Because we are. When we hire someone, we are agreeing to enter a professional relationship. But like any relationship: our work relationships are about human beings finding connections.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Let’s state the obvious: I am a woman in a world that is heavily dominated by men. Being a founder is inherently difficult but there’s another layer of adversity added simply because I am a woman. It’s because of this I’ve learned a lot of tough lessons. But, my learning these lessons gives me the platform to share my experiences with other female founders, which will hopefully act as a toolset to help them be better equipped for the road ahead. Within that toolset is the Candor Clause. The Candor Clause is an open-resource legal disclosure for inclusion in fundraising documents that helps foster an honest conversation about gender equality. It also acts as a protection against abusers and predators. You can find the Candor Clause at soona.co/candorclause. What sets me apart and how I got to where I am today are one in the same: my conviction in myself. I refuse to bend in ways that I find disingenuous to who I am and what I believe. By being true to yourself, I find you will attract people who have the same core values as you – from investors to employees.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The Colorado must dos for me: Always start your morning with a burrito in Denver! Get breakfast burritos at Hoja or amazing Cafe de Olla. There is some seriously great vintage shopping in this city. Cowboy hats and 80s vibes are a thing here. Hit up Garage Sale Vintage and Thrift Cult for the best mix of goodies. Once you get some shopping in, you’ll need some coffee. We love Corvus Coffee on South Broadway. Once you have some caffeine and a new outfit, make a booking at soona for a photoshoot! Get a new headshot or a group photo for $39 per photo. Then hit the road! No trip here is complete without mountains. I love to do a double up with an afternoon at Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs and finish the day at the paint mines. I’ll pack a picnic and bring a camera so you can get some awesome pictures and have a delicious treat in one of those special Colorado gems.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My co-founder, Hayley Anderson. Hands-down. She is my creative soulmate. Former Forbes 30 under 30 winner. An animator by trade and a visual visionary. The success of soona would not be what it is if I didn’t have her by my side. She is an actual creative genius.
