We had the good fortune of connecting with Breonn Lyons and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Breonn, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Stay ready so you don’t have to get ready! The habit of always being prepared will save your life. Always having product to show. I really do believe just having my website is what got my foot into a lot of doors without me really having to say anything. So always be prepared for what you are asking the universe for and embodying it, even just a little bit, every single day. One day your card will be pulled and you have to make sure you only have reasons for them to say yes to you. Other than that, literally just being kind. It never hurts to ask people if they need any help, or just talking to people and feeling each other’s vibe. Real, genuine kindness really goes a long way. Kindness will keep you in the room.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Today I can say that I am very proud of my resilience. I have been through a tough year and went through some dark times by myself. But I still showed up, and was able to accomplish a lot despite it all. It was NOT easy, I had a lot of private moments where I felt so small, and like I had no support, but in my heart I knew going back home wasn’t an option. As much as the comfort of my family, friends, and the familiarity would have soothed everything that I was feeling, I had to just cry it out in my shower. But as long as that shower was in New York! I would say that that was a big lesson for me: do not let your emotions infiltrate your progress. Emotions are temporary, legacy is forever. It’s interesting, because each time I’ve answered this question in these interviews, it’s been reflective of where I was at in my evolution. So it’s cool to have these to look back on. Right now the world should know that though I may not be on every screen and billboard yet, I am here to shine my light through my art. In the most authentic way possible, even if it means being vulnerable, it’s my strength. My light is my brand, and it will lead me to the big screen soon enough.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We are starting off the morning bright and early with some smoothies from Juicy Mama in Crown Heights, then we’re headed to Central Park for a mild bike ride and some sun bathing. After, we’d go to a few museums- art museums have my heart. Then we’d go to lunch at a nice rooftop restaurant. By now we’re probably tired so we’d go home for a nap. Then we’re back up headed to Williamsburg or the Lower East Side to find some clubs and bars!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this shout out to my mom. The strongest woman that I know. One that pushes me harder and with more love than any other person on this planet. Through everything, she’s always reminded me through her strength how strong I am. So thank you mom for sharpening me, especially within this past year of my life. I love you in this lifetime, and the one after.
