We had the good fortune of connecting with Brian and Tammy Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brian and Tammy, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
Tammy and I grew up in Michigan. We were high school sweethearts and started ‘dating’ at the ages of 15 and 16. We have been together for 31 years w/ 26 of those being married.

We grew up playing sports for as long as we can remember. We were driven to give our best no matter how much adversity we faced.

Now, we still have the same mentality especially as we instruct classes, raise our kids, and work on our marriage.

One message we have always told our kids when it comes to playing sports or schoolwork is, “You don’t have to be the best, you just have to give your best.”

Our hope as is that when people come to one of our classes, they are inspired by this message and our example for how we live this out.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Mountaintop Movement comes from some of our personal values and how we want to live our lives. One of the values is service. We genuinely want to bring others along on our journey of trying to be as healthy, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

One of the things that sets us apart is that we are not in this for the money. We are donation based, which means sometimes we receive a dozen eggs, gifts, a bottle of wine or six pack of beer. And yes, sometimes we get a few dollars too. But, because we value service of others, we offer our classes for free/donation-based b/c we never want money to get in the way of someone getting healthy.

Our journey started when we worked for a gym in Searcy, Arkansas. We got certified as instructors and were teaching all sorts of classes hosted at the gym.
When we moved to Colorado, we wanted to continue leading classes and because we had a great space to use, we started to offer our own version of classes. Our first name was ‘Body and Soul’ but we have since rebranded.

It was easy actually! Word of mouth and using social media really propelled us and got the word out about our classes and who we were. However, the 2 biggest challenges we faced was losing our space to do the workouts and then Covid shut us down for a bit. We overcame these challenges by finding a new space and then restarting our classes and rebranding.

What gets us excited is that people actually keep showing up. We are just honored and humbled that people come and support what we are doing. We enjoy getting to know our community and serving in this way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We live in the 4 Corners of Colorado, which bumps us against, New Mexico, Utah, and Arizona and lends us to all sorts of adventures, things to do, and see.

So, if I had an itinerary, we would make sure we went Silverton and Ouray so we could drive the ‘Million Dollar Highway.’ We would go to Moab, UT and float the Colorado River. But mostly we would keep it local by visiting Durango, hitting a few breweries, and float the Animas River.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout goes to:

All of the people who support us, come to a class, invite a friend, and give their best every time.
