We had the good fortune of connecting with Bridget Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bridget, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I think the most important factor behind my success and my company’s success is it’s authenticity. We honestly care about providing real recycling solutions to families and businesses, helping people make greener decisions and offering a host of services to make recycling EASY.. which has been our tag for over 25 years now! It’s such an honor to provide recycling services to Colorado, to be able to offer sensitive paper shredding and also full electronics recycling services to our customer base as well as walk-in clients M-F 9am to 4:30pm.

Please check us out! www.greengirlrecycling.com / watch a couple videos, check out our blog. See that we just received funding from the State of Colorado CDPHE for a new recycling truck to service hard-to-reach areas on the front range and make bigger impacts. We Make Recycling Easy!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well, I’m extremely positive. I love personal development and have been a part of the Titan CEO (top 100 businesses in the front range) for over 4 years.. being recognized several times as a winner and active participant in this program. I have been an active National Ski Patroller since age 15.. so 37 years now!! I hold the Rocky Mountain Division position currently as the Awards Advisor where I get to oversee all NSP Awards and help ski patroller get recognized with awards for heroic efforts. My name tag reads “Awards Enthusiast” because I LOVE acknowledging others. Lastly, I am so fortunate to have my best friend and business partner, Matt Johnson not only work in our company but help me raise our two amazing boys; Gavin 17 and Turner 13 who both play lacrosse and keep us on our toes.
I think one of the biggest lessons I’ve learn along the way is to LEARN from mistakes and that we all have them. I’ve learned that when you make a mistake, just get back up fast and run baby, run – that is what sets you apart from your competition. I also have a personal modo that if I am having a horrible day – which are few, I just go to my local Target store and have to give 7 really well meant complements to other people before I am allowed to leave. I find that by the time I get to the 7th complement, I feel 100% better.

Gosh, I’d love the world to know that I’ve been recycling since I was very little – I come from upstate N.Y. and that although I didn’t know what I wanted to ‘do’ when I grew up, I knew that recycling meant something to me. I used to collect cans from neighbor farms and sell them.. it’s how I bought my first real bike. I started a few recycling programs in college and then more for companies I worked for right out of college. Recycling has been a constant in my life, I just love giving things more life and more use. We live in a society that just throws things away all the time and doesn’t really stop and think of the impact their life and purchases have on the environment. I’d hope that I can be an inspiration and beacon of light to others, a solution to a problem and resource.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hummm… I would take my best friend white water rafting and camping on the Colorado river.. then, if it’s spring time.. we’d spend the next day skiing at Loveland or A-Basin where the lifts run longer in the year. We’d have to hit up sushi in Boulder for one dinner and a breakfast at the Jamestown Merc. We’d definitely go on a hike up to Brainard Lake and also take my jeep up Cameron pass and catch a sunset from there. We’d play pool in my basement, catch a show at the Gold Hill Inn and get a massage from the St. Julian Spa.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Most recently we received funding from CDPHE – funds to help us purchase 300 recycling carts and a 32′ trash style recycling truck to help more residential and commercial customers have access to single-stream recycling. We have added over 115 customers to our base in the past 6 months are look forward to helping many, many more sites have access to a real recycling program. (See our blog for full details)

We were recently won a prestigious award as the Sustainable Longmont Business Recycler of the Year! Feeling beyond honored to receive this award and recognition for all the work we do in the community to assist others and help as an outlet for harder-to-recycle items. This marks our 3rd year helping the City with a 2 week long take-back program assisting residential customers have access to all our services and many of them FREE during the event. The City sponsors the effort and we make the magic happen.

The photos are all mine. I took them on my phone. I could send you many many more! I couldn’t find a great paper shredding shot today – that should be in there as well. Thank you for your time reviewing my company. I appreciate it. (smiles) ~ Bridget
