We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittani Chin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittani, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Honestly, I never thought I would own my own business. I never had a “business plan” or “business model” I wasn’t sure if I ever wanted to actually take my passion for photography and create a business. Over time though It was one of those things that just started to make sense and feel right. Throughout the first few years of my photography journey I had family and friends who kept asking me what was holding me back from starting an official photography business, I was scared. I was terrified of the unknown. I doubted myself for a long time before I finally opened myself up to the idea of starting my business. But once I let go of a lot of those thoughts and feelings that were holding me back I knew what I wanted to do and where I wanted to go with it. I started to learn and grow from many influential people in the photography industry, The day I actually did the paperwork for my Business license and submitted everything I sat there and cried for a good 10-15 minutes because I finally felt like I was believing in myself and the experience that I know I can bring to people through my business.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
One of the things with my business that I am most proud of is my ability to truly love and serve the people that I get to work with! My families, couples, seniors all of the wonderful people I have had the privilege to photograph are just amazing people. My goal when I finally decided to start this business was I didn’t want to just have clients, who I take pictures of giving them their photos and then say Bye see you never. I went into this thinking that I wanted to create a community I wanted it to more than just a Job because this is my passion. I love getting to know my community and giving back to them. Be it helping them find vendors they need, talking with them on the phone, hanging out together etc. I have become great friends with so many. With my wedding couples almost all of them I still chat with regularly and some of them I photographed their wedding 3-4 years ago. When I work with people my goal is what can I do to make this the best, memorable experience possible. How can I make them feel respected, loved, cared for, and heard. I make sure my couples and families know that they are a priority to me, So for me, I book only one wedding a weekend, and I only book 3 weddings max so I can really support and serve my couples.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ok, so we are going to take this as a summer vaca, LOL! We would absolutely, most definitely hit up Water World! It’s like a second home for my family and I during the summertime! If I am not out photographing a wedding then you will find us there! We love to road trip so then it would be down to Colorado Springs to do Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, Seven Falls, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. Next onto Bishops Castle ( we love that place ) down to the Sandunes and then Pagosa Springs to do some soaking at the Pagosa Hot Springs. From there we would head to Ouray, swing over to Palisades, and back down to Breckenridge then home. I know it sounds like a lot but like I said we love road trips. As far as food we love finding the hole in the wall, or small mom and pop restaurants because they always have the BEST food.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh my, where do I begin! I have been truly blessed to have an amazing amount of people be so supportive of my business and goals. For one my family, they have been there through thick and thin and I know it hasn’t been easy. My husband Christopher was on board with me starting my business before it even occurred to me to start it 🙂 They have been patient with me on endless nights of editing or creating content for my website. Weekends that were taken up by photoshoots or weddings. Even during those times in my own head when I thought I was ready to throw in the towel, they have been there encouraging me to do more, and push harder to create the kind of business I want. I think this shoutout really goes to everyone who believed in me from the very beginning, there are so many family and friends who I have to thank for supporting me and pushing me to reach my goal.
