We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Guzmán Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Our success is rooted in defiance. I defy the notion that beautiful skin requires damage and toxicity. Conventional esthetics would have us regularly suppressing and wounding the skin’s healthy functionality with over-exfoliation, product dependance, and harsh actives. You won’t find most of the mainstream skincare actives at Limn Skincare & Massage. I don’t recommend salicylic acid for acne. I don’t recommend retinol for anti-aging. I don’t recommend glycolic acid for texture, or hydroquinone for hyperpigmentation. Actives ingredients can bring incredible results to the skin – but they need to be the correct actives, with the right delivery system. My approach is biological, non-inflammatory, and non-toxic.

By working biologically, I can customize treatments for all skin conditions and types. As such, Limn Skincare is able to meet the needs of underserved groups. Sensitive clients aren’t brushed aside at Limn. We don’t ignore hyperpigmentation on global skin tones. We don’t treat acne by compromising the skin barrier.

I defy damage and still demand results for everyone.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My undergraduate degree was in design, and it infuses Limn Skincare & Massage with a unique ambiance. I drafted 2D renderings and 3D models of my space before building it out. I design, create, and install every element: the hanging mirror shelves in the boutique, our floating window shelves, and eclipse moon mirror. There isn’t a single shelf in the space that I didn’t cut down from raw materials. Our neighborhood regulars have seen me and my father covered in sawdust on more than one occasion.

The result is a space that tantalizes and calms the senses. Clean aromatherapy and crisp sunlight enrobe the boutique, for immediate relaxation when you walk through the door. Our Birch room is warm and soft, with blushing woodgrain. Our Verdant room boasts lush greenery overhead. The Quartz room evokes the backlit diffused glow of crystals in candlelight. The relaxation begins long before the service even starts.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Whenever I get the chance to show off “my Denver”, I always highlight South Broadway. It boasts my favorite boutique (Decade Gifts), my favorite bar (Sputnik), and an eclectic stretch of independent small businesses.

I love to drop by Bon Ami in the Byers neighborhood for cozy french food and the best mussels in town. For a whimsical floral hideaway, check out the Botanical Bakery of Denver. In summertime, swing by the Pearl Street Farmer’s Market. If you find yourself in Olde Town Arvada, be sure to stop by the StockRoom.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am deeply grateful for the good folks at Colorado Enterprise Fund, for their support and guidance over the years. They were with me for my first small business loan. They even assigned a business mentor to check in with me during the first year. When the pandemic hit, I turned to CEF for guidance. Not only did they have the answers and direction I needed, but they remembered me from 5 years prior. They even remembered my little dog who used to sit in the window. They really take the time to get to know the people they help. I recommend them to every small business starting out.

Most especially, I am eternally grateful to my family. Collectively, in them I had a business mentor, a handyman extraordinaire, and a “shop mom” helping with operations until the company grew into itself. Limn truly is a family business.
