We had the good fortune of connecting with Mel McVeigh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mel, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My journey into the world of branding and web design started when I was 13, diving into coding with HTML & CSS on LiveJournal. I found joy in playing with Photoshop and creating layouts for my blogs. What began as a hobby eventually turned into my profession, and for nearly 14 years, I’ve been dedicated to designing and developing websites for all kinds of businesses and brands. The experiences I’ve had and the knowledge I’ve gained over the years, coupled with the invaluable lessons from peers and clients, have been instrumental in shaping my perspective. My continuous desire to learn and adapt has always been driven by a need to understand and cater to my clients’ needs. While I juggled different roles over the years, I always found myself contemplating freelancing and eventually I set up my own design studio.

What should our readers know about your business?
I run Loba Design Studio, a boutique design studio for visionaries. In a nutshell, we elevate businesses by crafting branding, web design, and marketing strategies that genuinely embody their unique narrative. Our commitment lies in delivering services that deeply connect with a brand’s target audience. We champion the idea that everyone, regardless of their abilities, should find the internet an easy place to navigate. With this in mind, our focus on user experience, accessibility, and performance optimization is always at the forefront of every project we undertake.

Three years ago, I founded Loba Design Studio, transitioning from nearly 13 years of independent freelancing. My vision was to build a firm poised for growth, where I could mentor my team about the critical aspects of user experience and accessibility. While growth presents its own set of challenges, I am enthusiastic about extending our reach and serving a broader clientele with our specialized services.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d begin our adventure with a delightful vegan brunch at Watercourse Foods, followed by an immersive experience at Meow Wolf. On the next day, we’d embrace nature with a hike at Rocky Mountain National Park and later enjoy dinner at A Cup of Peace in Boulder. A visit to the Denver Botanic Gardens is a must, paired with a delightful lunch at So Radish in Arvada. And we would definitely have to stop at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal to see the bison. Venturing further south, we’d head to Colorado Springs and visit Garden of the Gods and enjoy a yummy chai at Adam’s Mountain Cafe. These are some of my favorite places on the front range and I love to share these experiences when I have visitors!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I often describe myself as self-driven, yet shaped by my community. The wisdom of my peers and the invaluable interactions with my clients have been instrumental in my journey to where I am today.
