Meet Bryn Massey | Portrait and Wedding Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Bryn Massey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bryn, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Wilder Photography Co was born out of a yearning to find joy in my own life.
12 years ago, I found myself in college feeling completely lost, sad, and honestly, terrified of the future. I was filled with anxiety and a fear of not knowing who I was or what I wanted to do with my life. I failed out of my freshman year of college and felt like I had completely messed up what I thought I was supposed to be doing. God has a funny way of working things out.
I signed up for community college and decided to take a photography class. In that semester, I became completely obsessed with taking photos. I have always been a creative person. I just never really thought I could do something with it. As I started practicing and asking anyone and everyone if I could photograph them, I discovered that photography and I went together…really well.
My business really started as a project to bring myself back to life. It was not intentional. Rather, a happy accident that still continues to feed my soul.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Photography isn’t my main job.
I tried making it full time. I began hating it. My mom, the wise woman she is, told me that sometimes we have a job that fills our wallets and then we have things that fill our souls. They are not always the same.
Photography has and always will be my heart project and I will continue to do it on the side. This has allowed me to still love it. It has also allowed me to keep my pricing reasonable. Photographers deserve what they charge. It’s so much more than just clicking a button and maybe removing a zit or two. We spend a lot of time driving, editing, and putting together the most beautiful gallery. However, one of the things I believe so deeply, is that people deserve high quality photos no matter where they come from and no matter how much they can afford.
My deep desire is to continue being able to provide high quality services at a smaller cost for couples and families who shouldn’t have to decide if they can afford family pictures this year or not. Or make the bride decide if they should have a wedding photographer or the shoes that would go perfect with their wedding dress.
You deserve the special moments and everyday moments captured in space and time. And I would be honored to be the one who gets to capture it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As a Colorado native, it would be tough to show all my favorite parts of this state in one week.
We would start with a Rockies game. They are not the best team on the planet, however, the games and the vibes are a ten out of ten. Plus, there are so many incredible bars and restaurants all around the stadium including The Denver Milk Market, Union Station, View House, and literally, so many more.
We would obviously need to go to Amici’s off Wadsworth. I’ve been eating there since before I was born. The homemade pizza and pasta is to die for. Who doesn’t love a family owned authentic Italian restaurant?? If you come to Denver and don’t eat there, what are you even doing?
I would then take the treck up to Georgetown and through Guanella Pass. The lakes and trails up there are incredible. I feel so at peace anytime I go up. Bonus points if we get to ride the train!
You also can’t come to Colorado and not go to Boulder. The farmer’s markets, the Flat Irons, the food, the shopping…all amazing.
Depending on the time of year, there is so much more to do and see. If you are reading this and have not visited, put it on your list, ASAP.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This shoutout goes to God, my family, my friends, and to everyone who has let me photograph beautiful parts of their story. You have all encouraged me to keep going even when I wanted to quit. You shared my work, believed in me, and sent me new people that I got to meet and love on.
Thank you for seeing in me, what I sometimes cannot. Without you, Wilder Photography Co wouldn’t be here.
