We had the good fortune of connecting with Candice Dennis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Candice, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Most things worth doing or having involve some sort of risk in my opinion. I have never considered myself a huge risk taker but as I look back on my life so far, I realize everything that is fulfilling for me in my life has come to me because of a risk I took, whether that risk was a calculated one or just a spur of the moment decision that just felt right. Taking risks has not always panned out for me but I don’t regret any of them, some of those failed risks taught me more about myself then the ones that worked out. I think everyone can have a tendency to become complacent at times because risk and the unknown are scary, but I try to make sure I’m constantly evolving and changing within myself and my career.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When I first started doing hair I had no idea where it would take me, all the doors it would open for me or the wonderful people I would meet along the way. My career has truly changed my life in almost every aspect. I feel so fortunate to have found something that is so rewarding and fulfilling all while providing a great income. Being a hairstylist has provided me the opportunity to meet some of the most amazing people I would never have had the chance to get to know otherwise. I truly consider my clients to be close friends, I see and chat with most of them more often then I do my friends or family. I feel privileged that I have been able to build such trusting relationships with my clients over the years, we have shared so many life changes together, good and bad. As much as I love doing hair in the salon, my favorite aspect of my job is my wedding business. It is such a special day in someones life and it is always such an honor to be involved and always so much fun!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting we would have to do a lot of eating since we both love food, my favorite spots for brunch or breakfast would be Lucilles, Highlands Cork and Coffee, Rosenbergs, Root Down, or Tacos de Mexico for the best breakfast burritos. My favorite coffee shops to visit would be Crema, Corvus, Huckleberry, Novo, or Pablos. Lunch spots we would have to hit up, Vert, Vine Street, Parsley, Snarfs or Vital root. Dinner spots I love are, Safta, Tacos tequila whiskey, Somebody People, Barcelona or La Loma, we would need eat lots of things smothered in green chili! We would probably visit some breweries, my favorites are Denver Beer Co or Ratio, I also enjoy the vibe at both those locations. The Block Distillery makes delicious specialty cocktails. Being a Colorado native I like to try and keep things local.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My success would not be possible without my incredible mentors, who throughout the years have taken the time to not only teach me the technical skills I needed to be successful but also helped me to develop boundaries within myself as well as a healthy work life balance.
