We had the good fortune of connecting with Caren Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Caren, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you achieve it”, by Paulo Coelho’s book, The Alchemist. I like it because it’s true. I’ve seen it in my life. Do your part to work towards what you want in life and the universe (God) will help with the rest.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Professionally, I currently work in Communications and Marketing, but I am transitioning into UX Design. To accomplish this, I have enrolled in a tech boot camp and am excited to complete the program by January 2025.

In addition to my professional endeavors, I have a side business as a Travel Content & Lifestyle creator. In this role, I collaborate with brands to produce videos and photography that align with their vision and needs.

I believe my love for business and creativity has led me to where I am today. This journey required significant self-reflection and embracing my strengths. Interestingly, my current work differs significantly from my university studies. Initially, I thought I would work abroad in foreign affairs, as I speak Spanish. My first job out of university was in logistics, where I had the opportunity to collaborate with people from around the world. This global exposure ignited my passion for travel, leading me to explore various countries in my early 20s, such as Mexico, Germany, and Turkey.

During that time, I discovered the concept of remote work, which sparked my interest in the digital world. Eventually, I decided to delve deeper into this realm, and for a short period, I left the US to live in Barcelona, Spain.
The path has not always been easy, and I still feel like I have a lot to learn as a creator. I never want to be the smartest person in the room, as I truly enjoy learning from others. At times, I experience imposter syndrome, particularly when working with influential brands without having hundreds of thousands of followers on social media. However, through conversations with other creators, I’ve realized that many share these feelings. As long as I create from the heart and remain true to myself, the people who appreciate my work will continue to grow with me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
That’s a great question, I also find myself playing tourist in Denver. They say when you live in a city sometimes you don’t get to enjoy it like others do when they visit. That said, I’d say a few places I’d recommend for people to check out when they are here:

For brunch: Safta. They have an incredible breakfast buffet spread of yummy Mediterranean food.
For lunch: Tacos trucks. You can find them almost everywhere around Denver.
For Dinner: Korean Hot Pot/BBQ on Havana St. in Aurora, Co. There are several Asian restaurants. I’d argue Aurora has the better international cuisine instead of Denver.
For sights: I’d take them to a show at the Redrocks Amphitheater. There are great places to hike like in Boulder, and camping in Rocky Mountain National Park. I like to run, so I’d also take them to Wash Park in Denver and have a chill picnic. I am a fan of water, so I’d take them to Evergreen Lake for paddle boarding. And of course, no stop in Colorado is complete without a drive to the mountains.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give my credit to the wonderful women who inspired me to travel. From watching Samantha Brown on PBS as girl to the Youtuber’s and bloggers.
