We had the good fortune of connecting with Carissa Larson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carissa, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I grew up outside of Chicago and was a free spirited child. I had a hard time focusing in school and had interests that spanned all areas of life. My mother was a businesswoman that never stopped educating herself. My father was a carpenter and was self employed for most of my life. He told me that if I couldn’t commit to something to study in college that I should learn a trade instead. Both my aunt and Grandmother were “beauticians” and I loved the salon environment. I have always been very creative so hairdressing checks lots of boxes for me.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My husband and I work as a team. I specialize in Color and He specializes in cutting. We strive to educate our clients so they have an understanding of what is being done to their hair and why and most importantly, how to maintain it at home. We think communication is the key to our success and it helps to create deep bonds with our clients. We are an education based salon which means we are always offering advanced education to our staff. Prior to COVID we would travel to NYC for advanced trading and inspiration, at least twice a year, that we can bring back to our team. I have learned that Hairdressers need their freedom to express themselves through their craft. This business lends to creatives and free spirits. We strive to give our team the freedom to be themselves within their career while teaching them how to be true professionals and the best communicators in the Denver area. I would love for the the world to know that latherhouse strives to be the best in Denver through education, communication and impeccable hair services.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Top few places that I visit and take my out of town guests too: 1. Boulder/Pearl street for shopping and dining out 2. Breckenridge for the quintessential mountain town experience. 3. Estes Park for hiking and Wildlife peeping 4. a drive through Evergreen for Fall Aspen tree viewing. 5. Uncle-our favorite Denver restaurant 6. Mercantile for fine dining and the downtown Denver experience. 7.Most guests want to visit one of our marijuana dispensaries. We will take them to House of Dankness because it’s world renowned. 8.Most guests want to indulge in our craft brews. We love them all, but seek out a tour/tasting when possible. 9. Our salon-latherhouse, for a nice cut and style before doing all of the above.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have had brilliant mentors all through my career. I owe much of my creative success to the educators that have taken me under their wing over the years. I owe much of my business success to the leaders in the wonderful brands I have worked for over the years, I owe my happy life and work balance to my amazing husband and business partner, Kent.
