We had the good fortune of connecting with Carlos Michael Finn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carlos Michael, how do you think about risk?
For me risks… are powered by faith & intuition. With the two an artist then carves his/her own path. And a new journey begins by being bold and taking a chance! Nothing ventured nothing gained. Sometimes a little risk can lead to great love or success!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My work is primarily influenced by children’s art. A few shapes, a line, some scribbles, and a child’s drawing is complete. What fascinates me is the naive, carefree approach children express. I want my work to feel the same way…simple or sophisticated I’ll let the viewer decide. After a painting is complete, often times I will hang it in my bedroom so it will be the first thing I see when I wake up. I then study it as it greets me. These are proud moments when I know a painting is finished! Developing a style is most important as an artist. Each painting must be identifiable and unique for the audience to recognize from one artist to another. This is the biggest challenge an artist endures and this is what eventually I want the world to know.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Born & raised here in Colorado I think a combo of city/mountain experience would be the best adventure! The Rhino District is one of my favorites. With awesome street art and great brewery’s and live music at the Meadowlark or Larimer Lounge. A few hours drive to visit Buena Vista or Salida and there is enough time for a beautiful hike or a float trip down the Arkansas River. I’m a sucker for small towns and dive bars. Anyway you travel you will meet friendly people here in Colorado.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A very good friend of mine who filmed and edited my artist profile videos. Drew Bouchard and I met nearly 20 years ago both with creative minds working together and enjoying each other’s friendship! My family along with my nieces and nephews have also been very supportive in my inspiration and dreams as an artist. I also want to thank all of my collectors who have invested & believed in me over the years!
