We had the good fortune of connecting with Carol Sullivan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carol, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
It wasn’t a question of why….I just had to. This creative road is necessary for my well-being.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been painting on fabric of some sort for 45 years. I discovered silk as a medium in 1995 but wasn’t able to devote myself to it fully until 2014. I’ve never looked back. It’s a unique and often misunderstood medium. I want to expand the awareness of silk painting to the general art appreciating audience. Goal in mind is to have an art show dedicated to silk painting in my home state of Maine.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in the western mountain and lake region of Maine. The scenic, hiking, kayaking opportunities abound here. But I would definitely plan some time at the iconic coastal region of Maine to sample the seafood and dining spots, the art galleries, the whale watching, and the shopping!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shanna Robb nominated me for this “interview”. As a fellow artist, she has always been so very supportive. Another shout out goes to Karen Sistek, the best silk art teacher in the world.
