Meet Chad Beall | Woodworker, Metal worker, musician, photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chad Beall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chad, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I didn’t really have a choice. I have a 100% right brain artistic approach to everything and don’t have much business sense. I have never fully understood the concept of money and I am not driven by it. My decisions and priorities have always been motivated and inspired by gut feelings, design, relationships, and artistic challenges. Fortunately, I married and amazing accountant that keeps me grounded and helps me to maintain the business side of things that I would otherwise struggle with.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Tree Frog Woodworking, Inc., is based in Aurora, Colorado. We incorporated in 1998. We do high end woodwork and metal work for both residential and commercial customers. Our niche tends to lie in the more challenging projects in the construction industry that other companies shy away from. We take great pride in our creative problem solving, design, quality, and communication with our clients.
When I initially started the company, it quickly outgrew me, and I realized that I wasn’t going to be able to keep up without help. I thought that it would be easy to find employees that shared in my passion to create. I quickly found out that my mindset and approach were very different from the norm. Finding people that had the same hunger for learning and passion for creating the highest quality projects proved to be much more difficult than I ever would have imagined. At times, I would have what seemed to be a great team and it would just unravel. Personality clashes within the crew, great employees moving away, and economic downturns created countless bumps in the road. You can talk to any business owner, and most will say that finding and keeping the right people on board is the biggest challenge. I learned a lot about understanding people with different personality types and how to lead them. Fortunately, now, I have an amazing crew. These guys are taking it to a level that I never could have done alone. It has really turned into a special place, and I am very excited to see where it is going to go from here!
One of the biggest lessons that I have learned along the way is the importance of relationships. Being honest and reliable carry tons of weight. Being a team player and objectively collaborating with other artists, designers, builders, clients, and craftsmen helps to form the bonds that will inevitably sustain the company down the road. It is amazing what you can accomplish when you set your ego aside. Developing strong communication skills and being blatantly honest develop trust and forge the long-term relationships that allow your business to grow and to weather the storms that all companies inevitably go through.
Tree Frog Woodworking, Inc. is a highly creative company with a very passionate team. If you are in the market for top notch craftsmanship, give us a shout!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are some amazing places to visit in Colorado for someone that has never been. You can’t skip a good show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre – especially around the 4th of July when you can see fireworks lighting up the background all over the city. The Rocky Mountains are amazing year around and, depending on the season, you can hike, fish, backpack, snowboard, or simply drive to lookouts and revel in the view. In the fall, the bugling elk at Rocky Mountain National Park are a sure bet. Also in the fall, the color changes in the San Juan Mountains around Ouray and Telluride can’t be beat. A hidden gem, if you like roadside attractions, is Bishop Castle in Rye, Colorado. I’ve been here my entire life, and it is a great place to live in which you get all of the seasons, beautiful landscapes, and the sun shines 300+ days a year.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this to my amazing wife, Cindy. She has supported my adventures and endeavors as I have pushed boundaries and taken a very unorthodox approach to running a business. She has allowed me to follow my heart, even though she knew that my chances of failure could be high at any turn along the way. She has kept me grounded and I wouldn’t be here without her.
