We had the good fortune of connecting with Charis Sederberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charis, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I launched my business during the pandemic! Kind of crazy but it’s been the most fulfilling to see the steady growth with unprecedented times.

My business has been one of the most organically derived things in my life! I never planned on being an entrepreneur. When I became a nurse, I was overjoyed to find a profession where I would always be able to find a job and didn’t have to worry about meeting a sales quota or keeping up with my work peers from an earnings standpoint. I’m not a competitive person by nature and nursing was just a perfect fit for me in so many ways. When I decided to take a break from nursing, the opportunity to learn more about nutrition and become certified to help people in this arena opened up. It wasn’t until I was part way through my nutrition certification program that I knew I would start my own business.

To be honest, one of the big allures of working for myself is being able to manage my own time. I have always been very involved in my children’s day to day life and didn’t want to compromise that. I love the freedom that having my own business allows.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business has evolved to be exactly where it should be at this moment. It isn’t quite how I planned it however. This is an important lesson. I originally went to nutrition school for the education. Having already been a nurse for 15 years, I was blown away at how much I learned about the human body. I knew that I had to share this with others and decided to start my own business. It’s not easy starting a business however! I didn’t know exactly how to get started but luckily I had some great people guiding me along the way. I just took it step by step and am doing well with where I am today. As I scale my business to reach more people and have more offerings, I know there will be challenges and speed bumps. I draw on my current knowledge, am constantly learning, have great mentorship and follow my heart. That is my formula right now!

What sets me apart from other nutrition practitioners is my broad look at one’s situation. I am fortunate to have my exercise science and nursing background. I look at each person as a distinct individual despite what they may be diagnosed with or struggling with from a health standpoint. I don’t pigeonhole anyone into a category and don’t have blanket programs for my clients. Each client gets a very customized program based on their needs. I pride myself in this customization and it allows clients to achieve the results they desire. I use unique and highly sensitive testing to determine one’s stress in their body. This provides us with an amazing look at their body and helps us focus on where to start to improve their health.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Denver is just the ultimate place to live or visit! There are so many great museums to visit: Colorado History Museum, Denver Museum of Nature and Science, Denver Art Museum. I’m a huge fan of live music and so of course Red Rocks is a must see, but also The Bluebird and The Fillmore are favorites. I’m a big foodie and am very sensitive to quality and nutritious food obviously! I love Tavernetta and also Sweetgreen and Root Down. But really, get outside and enjoy everything Colorado has to offer! There are so many great trails around the metro area that really allow you to see the beautiful scenery that I always suggest that to guests. I’m partial to Golden and love the small town feel, amazing restaurants and awesome hikes right out our back door!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I think my success starts with my parents. They encouraged me to be independent, to think for myself and let me make my own mistakes. They loved me no matter the circumstances and having their support through my life has definitely shaped me to be the person that I am. I am so fortunate to have had amazing education throughout my life with some amazing teachers. I am now a teacher myself and feel that those important people were so influential in my life and guiding me to where I am today. My husband is my rock and has always supported me with every evolution of my dreams and now this business.
