We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsea Rogers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chelsea, what inspires you?
I’m endlessly fascinated and inspired by the calm, moody peace you get on a cloudy, rainy day and the emotions that accompany it. The slight melancholy and calm coupled with absolute peace has always interested me. I find this feeling hits me the hardest when I am in nature on a cloudy, rainy, chilled day. Or when I look at a photo of a couple in love with harsh shadows, movement in someone’s hair or clothing and earthy tones. This calm feeling is what I try to emulate and capture in my work.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think what sets me apart as an artist is my focus and emphasis on the little moments and details, and just those little normal moments that can be so special, but capturing the immense emotion contained in them for people to have forever.

Getting to where I am now hasn’t been easy. It’s been a long reload of ups and downs, creative ruts and challenging myself to push through them.

But those challenges and pushing through those valleys were always what allowed me to grow more and really come into my own as an artist and embrace my own style, instead of feeling like I had to be like someone else.

That relates to some of the most important lessons I’ve learned, which are to always be aware of what you can improve and constantly iterating on your work, but not comparing yourself to others.

The only person you should be comparing yourself to is who you were yesterday and trying to be just a little bit better.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Most of my time would be spent in Estes Park with whiskey from Elkins, sitting by a river in RMNP. I really love basically anything outdoors, randomly driving and finding great spots to hammock. I’m not a huge foodie so my food choice doesn’t get more exciting than qdoba. But I’m always down for a good whiskey and a day outside in areas that aren’t very populated. Honestly if I had an entire week I would have them unwind and relax in RMNP the entire time and explore the whole park with a bottle of good whiskey, a hammock, and a couple good books.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are two people without whom I would not be where I am in my career.

The first is my first ever photography teacher from high school, Jennifer Martin. She taught me the fundamentals of film photography and is where I first grew my love for capturing emotions in photos.

The second is my husband Kenny. He is constantly encouraging me to keep moving forward and pushing through my challenging times and creative ruts, never letting me throw in the towel.
