We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Felton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I believe Intentional Growth, Personal Development and Mindset. In the US, 90% of people retire broke. We live in the richest country in the world and most people never understand how money works or the mindset around it. The 90% are addicted to being comfortable. In Nature, you are either growing or dying. The Pine Tree isn’t seeking comfort. It is only either growing or dying. By seeking comfort, we actually are in decline. Our mental state doesn’t need help with negativity. Much like a garden that doesn’t need help growing weeds, the negativity weeds grow wo our help. I was once told by my Coach, “Your mind is the most fertile soil ever, how much time are you in there planting the seeds and weeding?? A few minutes a day? it’s like tending to Millions of Acres.” Once I made this connection that my life turns out based on my dominating thoughts, everything changed. I knew I needed to tend to that garden with a focused, daily, morning routine. We eat every day, we shower every day, but do we go to the mental gym everyday? Using this time to read, imagine my ideal day, my ideal life, read my business plan, pray and connect is everything. People want to make big changes all at once and get frustrated and quit when it doesn’t happen. The compounding of small efforts, 30 min per day over a year is 4.5 working weeks of shifts and changes is powerful, imagine 5 – 10 years+ of this compounding. When the majority set goals, they feel that they must believe it’s possible while the top performers know that they will eventually grow themselves and if it’s big enough, they won’t believe it once they set the goal, but they will GROW themselves into believing. I ask other entrepreneurs, what is your plan to grow? What are the 2-3 skills you are working on right now? What is your No.1 Goal you are aiming for? If they can’t answer these quickly then they lack the clarity of aim necessary to hit your goal. Top Performers are Clear which is a must to develop the mental focus necessary to hit their chief aim.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m most excited about our enormous mission to Stamp out and eradicate financial illiteracy in the US. A Big Job as we believe the number 1 economic problem is people don’t know how money works. The pandemic proved this out as the average small business owner had 2 weeks of savings and American Families were massively ill-prepared. So we are looking to add thousands of new financial educators in the next 3-5 years to get the word out as people aren’t taught these concepts in school, our industry doesn’t want you to know, and like me, you probably learned from your parents which didn’t work very well. My business partners wrote a book that became the best selling financial book of 2020, How Money Works, Stop Being a Sucker. Happy to mail a complimentary book to anyone that wants one to advance the mission. Being an entrepreneur is extremely challenging. Major lessons that have helped me is to be financially disciplined, be mindful of how you are losing the money game $5-10 at a time. How you treat small dollars is how you treat big dollars. By respecting money, you are proving that you can be trusted with bigger amounts of money. Learning how Wealthy People Think was tremendous. One of my favorite quotes by Billy Graham is “If a person gets his attitude toward money straight it will help straighten out almost every area of his life.” Our mission is to impact Millions and coach, teach and train them how to do this.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Thinking of them, it would be pretty easy. Trip to Aspen, Vail, Beaver Creek. Tons of Mountain Golf!!!! Tons of golf back where I am in Castle Rock. Ideally, it would be done around my favorite Months of Sept – November. If the timing is right, we could catch a Rockies/Nuggets/Avalanche/Broncos game all in the same week. Love sports. Favorite Restaurants, Shanahans, Del Friscos, Flemings. Counteract all this eating with some long runs, hikes, workouts.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
