We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris + Sarah Helms and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chris + Sarah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My husband and I realized this was an area in need of quality support! We found ourselves very caught off guard by how much our daughter impacted our relationship. Our old ways of connecting, communicating and resolving conflict didn’t seem to work anymore. When we went looking for support, we couldn’t find resources for partners transitioning to parents. We found ourselves wondering, “Why didn’t anyone warn us?!”. It shocked us even more when we started doing our own research. We found that almost 70% of couples feel a decrease in relationship satisfaction the second a child enters the picture. That’s such a large percentage! How in 2021, when we’ve needed it most, have parents survived without relationship support? Our brand, This is Parenthood, is a place for parents to get support for their relationship as they grow their family and navigate all the stages of parenthood!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are certified relationship coaches who specialize in parenthood. The foundational pieces of parenthood begin with a relationship between two people. Our business helps give skills, tools and support to couples so they can thrive as parents. We concentrate on the needs of a RELATIONSHIP to foster united and confident couples. What sets us apart? We are very real. Parenthood isn’t a smooth ride and we’ve learned this firsthand. We have encountered many of the same ups and downs that couples we coach are experiencing. We consciously choose to display real life on our social media, not perfection. We also prioritize having a lot of fun! We enjoy each other’s company, use humor as a tool to enjoy life together, and love teaching our clients to embrace imperfection to have a more meaningful family life. No matter how hard life gets, we encourage everyone to remember that you are on the SAME TEAM! What aren’t we excited and proud about?! We pour our hearts into our business in everything we do! From a couple saying they heard about us to a new social media follower, every bit of growth excites us! We are proud of the private Coaching Program we offer and the New Parent Workshop we created together. We are also excited to announce that we are kicking off something new this summer…sneak peek…Date Night Series!! We can’t sleep when we think about all the couples we will meet and positively impact through this new and exciting series. We know all of our programs are going to help so many parents! We are trying to change the way people approach a very important and sometimes overwhelming stage of life: parenthood. While this is not an easy thing to do, we find that reframing outdated expectations about roles and relationships is an essential piece of the parenting puzzle. We have gotten where we are today with a lot of hard work, confidence in the strength of our ideas, and the support of some amazing friends who remind us that we have something that needs to be shared. It has taken sacrificing time, money, and realizing that those are all short-term in the pursuit of our goals to keep us going. At the end of the day, we get through it together putting one foot in front of the other and keeping our eyes focused on our vision! What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story? We are ALL in! This is not just something we are passionate about in our own relationship, it is the legacy we want to leave with this world for all couples. Everything we do, we follow-through with the utmost professionalism. We value honesty and deeply invest in every couple that approaches our business for support. We believe creating the lifestyle you want is intentional. We want to be on your team so you can make that lifestyle happen as a couple. Life is too short to just have an “okay” relationship! Your children desire to see their parents have the best quality relationship possible. We look forward to supporting your parenthood journey!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would kick off the morning with brunch at Snooze. We would go for a hike in Golden to work off breakfast and make room for lunch at D-Deli. We would head down south to Breckenridge Brewery in Littleton, and drive by Red Rocks on our way to get Sushi at Sushi Hai. We would close the evening with watching the sunset at Acreage Brewery because it has one AMAZING VIEW!
