Meet Christian Ojala | Drone Pilot / Filmmaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Christian Ojala and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christian, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk is a critical part of business in my opinion. Risk can make or break a business in a heartbeat. I like to think about risk by understanding what I could retrieve from it. Risk has taken a huge part in my life and in my career. Being a business owner involves many risks to be successful. Each job I take part in is a risk, but I try to benefit with at least one of the three pillars; 1. network, 2, content, 3. payment. I have taken jobs that are giving myself content and a payment, but not so much of a network because it is working for another company. Taking the risk of working for another company for a job in my career path allows me to get paid and make content, But I am also gaining experience in a certain industry working for them. Eventually, I don’t want to work for someone else, but to push myself and my business into that career path. I have accepted that that risk is to not grow my business temporarily in that current time of work, but eventually I will have the understanding I learned from it to keep my business growing in that niche.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is called Avionik Studios, and we specialize in aerial cinematography and have been fortunate enough to work with major brands such as RedBull and GoPro to name a few. All of our drone platforms are hand built and engineered to be the fastest and most reliable aircrafts on the market. We are capable of flying cinema cameras such as the Red Komodo at upwards of 99+mph with aggressive maneuverability to be able to fulfill any task that is thrown at us. What sets us apart from others is our dedication, creativity, and our pilots that are the most talented pilots on the planet. I got to where I am with my business by pursuing what I love the most, which is filming and being able to fly drones for a living. It was definitely not an easy task, but I like to live by the fact that if you put your mind to something and put all of your dedication into it, you can complete any task! I have learned many lessons along the way. Some lessons I have learned are to not compare yourself. Comparing yourself leads to you not being satisfied with your own work. Being satisfied with your own creativity is what makes you the best. What I want the world to know about my brand and my story, is to follow your dreams and follow what sets your heart on fire.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being that I live in Colorado, there are many beautiful places to visit. I would totally take a friend to boulder. Boulder has a lot of festivities that go on through the town such as amazing hiking trails, and great shops and restaurants to visit. I would totally go to BarTaco in boulder since it is a super cool little spot that has amazing food, drinks, and brings on the vibes. I would also recommend going to a hockey game in downtown Denver and grabbing some dinner in McGregor square in downtown Denver. I really love mountain biking so anything in the mountains would be my go to to bring someone that is visiting. If it was in the winter, I would totally recommend to go skiing or snowboarding at one of the many amazing resorts we have around, but if it is in the summer, I would recommend going mountain biking at many of the trails around the state, or hiking at a national park!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are quite a few people in my life that have helped myself be successful. Firstly, my parents have helped support me at the beginning of the journey and have been supporting me and my endeavors ever since. I also want to give a huge thanks to my good friend Kenny Garcia for working with me on many projects that helped myself build my portfolio and work with some extremely talented people to this day. Kenny and I still pursue work with each other to this day and we have enjoyed working with each other for a few years now. Many of my friends that I have made over the years have been great supporters of my company and my growth to this day.
