Meet Christina Kassel | MS Sports and Health Sciences, Bodybuilding and Lifestyle Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Kassel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christina, how does your business help the community?
I find a lot of pride and joy in my work helping women (and some men!) find their confidence and capability in this crazy world through building strength and consistent habits. While most people come to me with a goal of losing X amount of weight and I also work with bodybuilding competitors that have goals of winning on stage, the real trophy is when the Moms I work with feel like themselves again. It’s amazing when a woman gets comfortable eating foods she’s shied away from for years for fear of being “fat” and instead realizes that carbs can help fuel her journey towards being her strongest self. I especially love to hear that couples or families begin to share the fun of fitness, by combining cardio goals with a family hike, or going to the park to run around together or using the sunset as a time to walk and talk about their day instead of being stuck on the couch. I truly believe that finding the joy in supporting the nutritional needs of our bodies along with a focus on daily movement and strength training can be a major catalyst in being more joyful and more productive in other areas of our lives.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have the joy of working with my own Coach, that helped me get started in the fitness industry as a competitor back in 2016 and I have learned so much from him. The value of having a mentor that is excited to answer questions and see those around him succeed just can’t be quantified. I think an important aspect of the way we operate can be summed up in this sentence I say to clients all the time “Remember that you are the Captain of this ship, I’m just the Navigator that provides informed guidance on how to best get to your goal, but you always make the final decision”. I think a lot of people think that hiring a coach in any aspect of life means you hand over the reins, but it’s really about finding someone that you can trust and be open with and that helps you be the best version of you, be it in sports, fitness, business, any area that coaching can apply!
Remembering to look for the joy in any work helps you overcome the challenges. I always keep in mind that working with people on their strength, weight loss and physique goals means that I’m welcomed into a very intimate aspect of their life: their relationship with food, the scale, the mirror, their clothes, etc. That can be really hard for my clients to not be emotional about, and I in turn have to try and not let emotions get the best of me. When someone desperately wants to be the smallest version of themselves and I know that pursuing a fat loss goal isn’t the best plan right now, I have to not let my desire to immediately make them feel better get in the way of my integrity as a coach. I also believe that having a good connection and open communication, where both my client and I feel comfortable saying what we need to say is integral to success.
I truly love getting the opportunity to see the lightbulb go off when my clients realize they are capable of reaching their goals, of planning for success and seeing a plan through to the end. It makes my heart grow each day!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Our family loves to go out to breakfast and trying new restaurants. With having four children, we’ve found Snooze in Westminster to be a family favorite. We can count on our favorite menu items and get to try fun new specials! A drive out to Estes Park afterwards to see some wildlife makes for a fantastic day during the summer, we also love taking the kids to hike the Red Rocks. Beau Jo’s Pizza is a favorite of ours, especially mine because I love pizza crust so much! If given the chance for a kid free dinner, my husband and I always choose Hapa Sushi in Cherry Creek, and we finish the night off with a walk over to the mall to shop a bit. During the summer, we love getting to grab a drink near Coor’s Field and we try to catch a Rockies game each season, and we love the splash pad in front of Union Station and grabbing an ice cream cone afterwards!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband deserves SO MUCH credit for helping me get my business off the ground while being a mother of four. I didn’t really get things rolling until we were 6 months into the pandemic, our oldest two children had been home from school all summer and we weren’t sure how the 2020 Fall school kickoff would go and I started taking more clients that August. He’s supported me while I pursued my Masters degree as an active duty Sailor in the Navy and when we had a toddler and an infant, working on getting his own post-military career off the ground. I’m so proud of our relationship and how we have always pushed each other to achieve our goals and our dreams, a frequently spoken sentence in our house is “we’ll figure out a way”, and with that we’ve been able to capitalize on every goal we’ve set out to achieve! Mutual respect, open communication and our love for each other has taken us to some wonderful places, to include entrepreneurship.
