We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Hicks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We wanted to provide a simple solution to a problem that so many people face. When people struggle with fatigue, poor sleep, weight gain, or brain fog, they are often told it is just part of getting older, being busy, or keeping up with the demands of life. Instead of finding the root cause, they are given quick fixes that only mask symptoms while the real problem gets worse.

The Better Weigh addresses this by helping people restore their health in a way that is sustainable and affordable. Our mission is to help people rediscover what it feels like to truly feel well. We focus on more than weight loss by helping individuals reclaim their energy, clarity, vitality, and confidence.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets us apart is also what makes this work so challenging. Every program we create is individualized to fit a person’s goals and lifestyle. We do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach, and because of that, we pour substantial time and effort into every client we serve.

When I first started, it was just me. I loved what I was doing, but managing a growing business while also being present for my family was overwhelming. At that point, I was not sure I even wanted to grow beyond myself. But I realized I needed to build a tribe of health coaches who could carry the mission forward. That has been one of the hardest parts of the journey. It requires finding people who share the same passion and then spending years training them to deliver the program in a way that is consistent across providers while still individualized for each client.

This business has taken 10 years and tremendous hard work to develop into what it is today. What I am most proud of is that we never compromised the integrity of what we do, even when it would have been easier to take shortcuts. The lessons have been many, including patience, persistence, and the belief that real health is worth the effort.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would want my best friend to experience the mix of outdoor adventure and local charm that makes Colorado so special. We would spend a morning on a scenic mountain hike surrounded by fresh air and wide-open views, take a day to paddle board on a nearby lake and enjoy a picnic with fresh local food, and finish the trip with a concert at Red Rocks.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We want to thank our clients. They are truly our walking billboards. From the very beginning, we have not had to rely on traditional outreach because our clients do it for us in the most authentic way possible. They go out into the community, share their stories, and people can see the difference in how they look and feel. When others notice their energy, confidence, and health, the natural question becomes, “What did you do?” That kind of word-of-mouth support has been the greatest gift to our business and is what allows us to keep making a difference in the community.
