We had the good fortune of connecting with Christy Alexander and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting Indie Essence Photography wasn’t just a business decision — it was deeply personal. I’ve always had a passion for art, and photography has long been an artistic form that spoke to me. As a mother of nine, I’ve experienced firsthand how quickly time passes, how motherhood transforms you, and how powerful it is to feel seen in your most vulnerable and beautiful moments. I felt a pull to capture that — not just for myself, but for others. I wanted to create a space where women could celebrate their strength, their softness, and their stories through artful, soulful photography. What began as a creative passion grew into a calling — to empower, to preserve memories, and to remind people how much beauty exists in the moments they live every day.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is rooted in storytelling — not just through the lens, but through emotion, texture, and truth. What sets my work apart is the intention behind every image. I don’t just take photos — I create space for people, especially women and mothers, to be fully seen in their softness, strength, and in-between moments. Indie Essence Photography is about raw connection, earth-based beauty, and documenting the sacred seasons of life in a way that feels soulful and timeless.

I’ve always had a passion for art, and photography has been my most honest form of expression. As a mother of nine, I’ve walked through many chapters — birth, loss, healing, and transformation — and that deeply informs how I show up for my clients. I understand how fast time moves and how important it is to hold onto the beauty of now.

Getting to where I am today wasn’t easy. Starting a business while balancing family life, self-doubt, and growth required a lot of faith and resilience. But the challenges gave me clarity — and taught me that when you create from authenticity and heart, the right people will feel it.

What I want the world to know is this: my work is about more than photography. It’s about giving people a visual reminder of their worth, their beauty, and their story. Indie Essence isn’t just a brand — it’s an invitation to pause, feel, and remember who you are.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had best friend visiting from out of town we would have a busy week ahead of us.
Each day would be spent in a different town. Maybe our first day we would visit Estes Park and tour the Famous Stanley Hotel. On our way back we could stop at the Colorado Cherry Company for some Pie and juice. That evening we would relax on the patio near the fire pit and reminisce over the years of our friendship. The next day we would wake up early and go on an early morning hike. My friend would be such a doll and we would do a friendship photoshoot at dawn to catch that early morning blue hour and golden sunrise. Then once we completed our hike we would retreat back home to relax for a few hours then cook a nice dinner. the proceeding days would be spent touring Denver and local shops and visiting other mountain towns. One must do activity is dipping into the surrounding hot springs. In Colorado we have so many options to choose from. Live music is another event that we would have to attend. It doesn’t even matter the genre of music. Just the simple fact of getting out and being in good company is what matters.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to The Heart and Soul workshop hosts. That workshop is the latest influence in the development and growth of Indie Essence Photography. The hosts Michelle Close from Michelle Close Photography and Kara Durbin from Kara Durbin Photography and Kindred Soul Dress Rentals have inspired me to ignite my creativity within the simplicity of everyday life.
