We had the good fortune of connecting with Clair Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Clair, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
Life is a series of transitions. We are all continuously in a state of adjusting our humanity. It is often beautiful and sometimes it is terrifying, uncomfortable, and full of unknowns. My business is all about embracing those transitions. I have spent seven years focusing on the transition to parenthood and, in the past year, have begun to delve into supporting the transition out of this life. The most profound thing I have learned is that, though there are common themes (we all are born, and we all die), these transitions look so different for different people.

What should our readers know about your business?
When I first became a massage therapist, 12 years ago, I primarly worked in the medical massage arena. The human body is a puzzling collection of moving parts that has always fascinated me. It wasn’t until I had my first child that I realized that this puzzling collection is even more fascinating in pregnancy. The myriad of ways that our human bodies accomodate the continuation of our species are mind boggling. I never get tired of learning new ways to support the body in the journey through conception, pregnancy, postpartum, and now end of life.

I think I am set apart from others in my field is the spectrum of my approach. I am a certified Pediatric Massage Therapist, Prenatal Massage Therapist, and am workin on continuing eductation in geriatric, palliative, and end of life massage. It is less a passion for one in particular human experience and more the passion for the journey that inspires me. I love the opportunity to support my fellow humans in the chapters of life that dramatically influence who they are as people.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Our community here in Eagle County is phenomenal, there is such a deep reservoir of support. While I am not an incredibly social person, (let’s be real, the business I spend most of my time at is our local library!) a few of my favorite spots include Red Canyon Cafe, Vail Valley Wellness, Inner Light Juice, The Vitality Collective, and the Be Well Barn!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
While every child changes a parent in a million tiny ways, I have to say that from her unplanned conception, to her brutally long birth experience, my eldest spawn has kept me on my toes. She has created space for me to grow and learn at every turn of her existence.
