We had the good fortune of connecting with Cole Fritz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cole, what inspires you?
I am inspired by helping people taking myself and my clients just that one step further into a better life. Mainly with taking back control of their lives through fitness and nutrition. A lot has changed over the last few years and we are seeing the world slowly see that maybe it is time to slow down and prioritize other things instead of the rat race as the number one priority. As such, I have seen a growing number of people realizing that health is becoming more important for them and their families, which as of course the main focus is exercise and nutrition. When focusing on this I really get pumped up about doing a creating hard, yet thought out training programing with a nutrition plan that focuses on muscle growth. So I would say that my main inspiration in overall growth inside and outside the gym for myself and clients. Overall I try to focus on these four virtues as it comes to my coaching and lifestyle: Strength, Courage, Honor, and Mastery. If I am able to teach this to as many people as I can, I know I will have done my job; as well as proving amazing client results.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I believe what sets me apart from others in my industry is I came from a background in sports but did not go to college for being a fitness professional. I actually went to school for Criminal Justice and Psychology. But as I got along in school playing rugby along with track and field I discovered I wanted to learn more about diet and exercising, because I always wanted to get better and stronger. It was during that time our strength coach told me to get certified in USAW which is olympic weightlifting. This was my intro to education through certifications and what prompted me to see the high value in continuing education while maintaining a business. So for me prioritizing learning through in person certs, online education, and books as been top priority via day one for me. I have a minimum standard of at least 3 new certs/seminars a year to attend so that way I can learn or reinforce concepts within my field that will make sure I stay ahead of others not only in my session delivery but also in how I am able to produce my results for my clients, which is what it all stems back to. If you produce results for your clients, you are a good coach, the rest of the business side has always been hard since that is not taught to people who did not have business as a major or in most fitness certifications. This has been the root of my success, surrounding myself with the best business and fitness coaches in my industry, so that I am able to make sure I perform at a higher level each and every time I come back from a learning holiday.

The ease of the job generally came to me as I just liked being in the gym and had a large desire to help people out. Which is another reason a good fitness professional can stand out from others, I care about my clients first and also want them to succeed inside and outside the gym. Most obstacle for a large majority of people come in the form of confidence, so as build our bodies i.e. strength we must work on mastering the mind as well. Whenever I have felt lost or needed an extra push I would hire a coach to get me to my next level, having the courage to ask for help when you need it is hard for most but it will allows you to succeed and become an even better person or coach. So support is a huge part of any persons success, as we know we become like those we surround ourselves with, so I choose to surround myself with the best and brightest in my industry as it relates to my personal, fitness, business, and life goals.

If my brand legacy can be anything it would go back to the four virtues: strength, courage, honor, and mastery. If I can teach anyone anything outside of how to get their bodies bigger, leaner, and stronger these virtues would be it. Reason being, strength is never bad it is always good to have, wether its internal or external strength. Courage to do what is right and stand up for yourself and those you care about. Having honor, doing what you say you will do, leaving by a high standard for yourself and holding others to it. Finally mastery, mastering yourself and your craft, while this is hard it also has no end. Always desiring to get better, focusing unrelenting to fulfill your life purpose and staying true to the course you have been called to do, that is the ultimate goal for those seeking a full and enriched life that was lead with purpose and leaving behind these teachings so future generations may have a better future as well.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If we are sticking with fitness I would definitely take them Armbrust Pro Gym, as it is the mecca for bodybuilding on this side of the great divide. But if it were up to me, I would take them up to my college town of Gunnison and take them around the area to scope out the wilderness and do some hiking and back packing in the national parks. I would also take them up to Crested Butte and we would go get pizza at Secret Stash Pizza which I think has some of the best pizza and atmosphere out of any pizza place on the western slope! I would also take them to Powerstop in Gunnison, for the best burgers and beer I have ever had in my life. Overall if we are looking for a good time while having a week long trip, you could do so much in that valley in that week without ever needing to worrying about too many people and enjoy the great outdoors.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have a lot of people I could and should thank when it comes to getting me to where I am today. First and most important would be my high school wrestling coach, Coach Gabel, he helped me through a very dark time back in high school and I would not be speaking to you without his guidance and leadership in my life back then and currently. We still stay in touch and talk on the phone whenever we are not busy and I had the honor of seeing him do his first bodybuilding show last year was a special moment for me to see his discipline transfer over into another difficult sport.

Another important person that would be a huge factor into where I am today is my business mentor Mark Coles. Outside of the fact that his last name is just as cool as my first name, he is the one who has literally lead by example and has done everything that I wanted and will become in a fitness professional. He has studied under some of the top bodybuilding coaches in the world, as well as other educators in the fitness industry that are a driving force in making it a better and more respected field. Mark and his team at his gym M10 represent everything I have ever wanted to see in a fitness group. Premium, educated, and results based trainers who know how to walk the walk alone with how they present their information. Mark has also wrote a book called “Level Up” where he discusses how a fitness professional can take themselves to any level they want to, as long as they are willing to put in the time and effort to get there. This book should be reviewed at least once a year for any fitness professional, it is also a good book if you want to read about business but from a different view point.
