We had the good fortune of connecting with Corey Floyd and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Little Mad Events is an event decor company. We focus primarily on custom draping and decorative lighting for special events with an emphasis on weddings. I think what sets us apart in our field is our attention to detail and our effort to always use the highest quality products. Often times in the event industry, everything is made to be disposable. We strive to use better materials and take better care of our product so that it will last as long as possible reducing our environmental impact as well as directing more money to people rather than products. Getting to where we are today has not been easy (is it ever?) and we continue to have our growing pains. The biggest challenge we face is always staffing. Working in weddings in Colorado is very seasonal and figuring out how to retain employees from year to year when there are only 6 months of consistent work is a balancing act that we are still working on.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When I travel, a lot of my itinerary is based on where to eat and drink. Breakfast at Jelly or Denver Biscuit Company is a solid start. Fox Run Cafe on Colfax is one of my favorite places to eat, not just in Denver, but anywhere and would make a great lunch stop. While you’re in that part of town, Twist and Shout and the Tattered Cover are good shopping stops. In the evening, Middleman is one of my favorite happy hours, Dos Santos has my favorite margarita, and High Point Creamery or Sweet Cow are the place to go for ice cream. I’ll leave dinner options open.

I have memberships at the Denver Zoo, The Denver Botanic Gardens, The Museum of Nature and Science, and The Denver Art Museum, so depending on what’s going on at any of those institutions, there is usually a good pick there.
In January, the stock show is a must. It may not be for everyone, but I think it’s one of the most uniquely “Denver” things to do. Even if you don’t get tickets to a rodeo, just getting grounds passes and checking out all the animals as they get pampered for showtime is worth it.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Two shoutouts for me: First to Camp Pathfinder in Ontario Canada where I worked as a camp counsellor for many years. Any confidence and capability that I have as an adult in this world likely came from my years there. The second is to Jodi McDonough who owns Colorado Joe’s. She was in charge of hiring me at my first event job after I realized that photography was not the career I wanted to pursue. The rest is history.
