We had the good fortune of connecting with Crystal Sullings and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Crystal, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Colorado Firefighter Calendar was created as a fun way to raise awareness and funds for children who have suffered a traumatic burn injury. We help neonates, infants and children up until age 21. Through our educational programs, sales of our calendars and special events we donate funds to pediatric burn centers and burn camp programs in the Rocky Mountain Region.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets Colorado Firefighter Calendar apart from most firefighter calendars, is that we have the opportunity to get active and retired firefighters involved with our charitable efforts. Our calendar grants local firefighters to be involved in their community. We help them to be a part of a bigger picture, a picture that makes a difference in helping burn children to regain confidence and feel good again about their unfortunate accidents and turn that pain into gain and empower and encourage each child’s personal growth.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Our itinerary would involve several months spanning from Spring to late Summer. We would kick off on Mother’s Day weekend attending the Colorado Firefighter Calendars coveted Tryout Event (firefighters around Colorado vie to be in the upcoming years calendar), once we recover from the exciting evening we would go on to be a part of our photo shoots at various fire stations from Denver to Boulder. Once we have locked in our best selfies, you will probably find us at a booth selling our calendars at Parker Days, Corey Rose Wishes and Heros, Pride and then preparing for our anticipated calendar Release Party (most voted firefighters are revealed) in August. If you miss us in August, you can always find the entire calendar models lined up and ready to sign calendars at the MDA Chili Cook-off.. another fun event. What’s better than eating chilli and checking out the hot firefighters?!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would like to shout out all of our firefighter alumni and to all future firefighter who have committed personal time and efforts in helping us raise over $765k since 2011. We of course couldn’t have done what we have done without the efforts of our all volunteer board as well. We are unique! We are fun! We continue to thrive!
