Meet David Burton | Father and small business owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with David Burton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi David, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Well I had just got out of prison and I went back to doing garage doors for an old company. While going back to that company with several years of knowledge, this company decided after prison and becoming a ( felon) as the world sees it, I asked my old boss to go to dinner in fort collins with me so we could talk. At dinner that boss told me that I wasn’t worth more than 14 dollars an hour being a felon. That hurt me and I knew I had to do more not for myself but my daughter and the time I was spending trying to make it I had no time to catch up with time I had lost with her. My dream became a statement. And that statement got put into action.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I think when It comes to being apart from other garage door companies, we really take pride in not only the product we install , but also in the work and how we change the look and feelings of our customers when we transform and upgrade their garage doors. I am so proud of where the company has gone compared to where we started! Starting this company, I had just got out of prison and had no idea of where to start or what to do. Meeting my friend and him helping me start the process was so exciting …… yet very very fearful at the same time. I mean I just got out of prison had my second daughter and was working full time from 730 am till 1am the next day. I would work full time at the garage door company and then go wash dishes at p.f. changs in Loveland till they closed. Doing this was keeping us afloat but I couldn’t keep going. Once he got me going it took a bit to find a truck and get started. But the hunt was on and I was determined. It took a while but I went to the dodge dealership and found my first truck.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take friends to the mountains to see the beauty. There is so much to see in Colorado and the taste alone of our delicious restaurants, however I did find out 2 years ago that I have a fib heart failure and kidney failure so eating out isn’t really on my menu! Instead cooking a nice home cooked meal , or putting some meat on the grill for a salad had been so yummy and healthy that our adventure together would be healthy I’m sure. I love that colorado has so many active sports league’s or practices like Frisbee golf, or football, or community races that anything here in this beautiful state is an adventure.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh man where I am at today started with 1 person having total faith in me and showing me it I’d OK to Chace your dreams and become something more. This man’s name is Kale Canham. I installed 2 machines at his house, he then proceeded to tell me how good I did and how I could be successful following my dream. He then gave me a personal loan of 2000.00 dollars , I sold my trailblazer and we set fourth on the adventure.
