We had the good fortune of connecting with David Lopez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I come from a low-income, single-mother household. I had to overcome a multitude of obstacles just to make it to college. The cost of tuition became my largest barrier, not only for me but also for many of my deserving classmates. Once I realized that college is a business and they’re paid regardless of successful outcomes, I knew that there had to be better alternatives. I wanted to build a program with desired outcomes for students who can’t afford to spend four years and go into any sort of debt. Students deserve to attend a program where both party’s incentives are directly aligned.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Gritly empowers and accommodates people to think differently about their future by preparing them for high-tech sales roles with our partner companies. We built a 12-week online bootcamp that gives students the support, community, and training they need to land an entry-level sales role within a high-growth company. Our platform and approach while advantageous to all is particularly valuable to minorities, women, veterans, and those that followed a non-traditional career path that are passionate about moving into high-tech sales. We align our incentives with our students’ goals to help them achieve economic mobility, meaning we don’t succeed until our students do. This path hasn’t been easy, but our entire team understands that everything we are working on is bigger than us.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would hike Chautauqua and go out for drinks at Avanti in Boulder. We would then visit the 16 street mall, followed by a meal at My Neighbor Felix’s.
My favorite activity would be to take them to a Rockies or Nuggets game.
We would spend the day downtown/Union Station and then wrap up with a meal at Bird Call.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to Energize Colorado. This organization is dedicated to helping Colorado’s small business economy bounce back from the negative impact of the pandemic. I’m proud to collaborate with them both personally and professionally.
