We had the good fortune of connecting with dbo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi dbo, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
I believe one major thing overlooked in our industry by outsiders is the amount of work that goes into brand recognition and development. Our approach has been 100% grassroots and based on networking and word or mouth branding. Our teams on all sides of our operation are constantly educating the consumer on our history, process, products, and placements. Whiskey doesn’t sell itself and you have to make a quality product that the consumer is excited to share with their family and friends for the years to come.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been in Operational Management in one form or another for almost 30 years. During that time I’ve been able to work every position in the service industry while working long days, extended weeks, and inflated months. I’ve missed holidays with my family and weekend evenings with my friends for years. It’s taken a toll on my body and in some ways my health at times. Creating a healthy work-life balance took me years to grasp and quite frankly I’m still working on it. My lessons learned along the way have helped me shape a dynamic company environment that truly cares about every single employee under our roof. We make sure to value our employees and provide a platform for success and a focus on mindful wellbeing. We want our employees to grow with us as our brand continues to blossom all over the nation.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love showcasing Denver to people visiting from out of town. Some of my favorite spots in town are indicative of what the day is entailing. We have amazing patios here in the Mile High City, so you have to hit those when the sun is showcasing it’s strength. Some of my favorite patios right now are Joyride Brewing, Recess, Denver Beer Company, and Number Thirty Eight. Obviously I love whiskey, so hitting up bars and tasting rooms is always on the radar. During a weekend tour attached to my side while exploring a variety of watering holes, you’d possibly find yourself at Fort Greene, Pon Pon, Forrest Room 5, Adrift, and almost certainly the Englewood Grand.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d say the people deserving the most credit in getting me to this point in my life are my wife, family and friends. I’ve always relied heavily on the work ethic instilled in me at a very young age. Knowing that to achieve my goals in life I needed to work effectively and efficiently saved myself several wasted years very early on. While your progressing it helps to have a solid and reliable network of friends to help shape the existence of your adulthood. Lastly, my wife has been by my side for over 20 years and has supported my journey from jump street.
