We had the good fortune of connecting with Dd Goodson, and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DD, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
A lot of thought went into starting my own business. I believe having a solid mission going into starting my own business kept me grounded and focused on building it. My mission started with, and still is, to provide athletic teams, sport coaches, and athletes with proper strength and conditioning protocols to help them reduce their risk of injury in their sport or activity, improve their strength, speed, & performance, and help them gain better knowledge of strength and conditioning protocols to utilize.

What should our readers know about your business?
Xplore Strength is designed to impact athletes and help them improve performance in their sport or activty, whether that be organized sports or outdoor athletes. What sets us apart is our experience working with these specific athletes in their sport, and how we focus on customizing the program for that team/ athlete based on their needs analysis. We have worked on multiple levels and various sports which helps strengthen our knowledge in the field, and we also do our research on best practices and protocols for different teams and athletes. Getting to where we are today was not easy. As one could expect, it took lots of investing, a lot time spent researching, studying, developing, and a just lot of putting myself out there and taking the risks of starting my own business. A few lessons that I have learned along the way and that has stuck with me throughout this journey is to 1) remain detailed in your work no matter the circumstances, and 2) enjoy the journey; have some pride in your process.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My backyard is the Rocky Mountains, and I love being outside so I am taking any friends and vistors to the mountains. On our way up we would stop at a few mountain town breweries to try some of my favorite Hazy’s, grab some snacks and wraps to make lunch on the river, fish for some trout all day, then on our way back down stop and grab some elk chili from Red Mountain.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Id like to thank my wife, Kelsey, for the unwavering support throughout my years of interning, and coaching. She has played a vital role in helping to grow the business.

Id also like to thank University of Colorado Strength and Conditioning Coach Steve Englehart for his mentorship throughout the entirety of my career in coaching thus far. His experience of working with athletes, his coaching impact, and tenure in the field is unmatched.
