We had the good fortune of connecting with DeAndre Deillis Sims and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DeAndre Deillis, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
A few things, in no particular order,
~Food, Because there nothing like having a full tummy thinking to myself, THAT WAS GOOD.
~My Art, when I finish or revise a picture, I take a step back and allow myself to appreciate the identity and form of what IT is, half the time I don’t know as well as being grateful to see what’s in me, being connected to something greater and bigger than myself. Knowing my late brothers would be proud of me.
~Roller Skating, giving me a workout, a feeling of freedom through dancing/grooving to the beat adds to my artistic expression, and inspiration from the Mile High Adult roller skating/Skateboard/Ice skating community here in Aurora/Denver Colorado as well as the national/inter nation skate community as we continue to “get our roll on”
~Traveling, Discovering and attending different events and venues allows me to experience life. Seeing different places, people, cultures, customs, and music are ways I enjoy expanding my knowledge adding to my understanding. People is a trip and there is suffering/Love everywhere however I search out and a seeker of good vibes and good times.
~Volunteering, makes me happy because I receive more than I give. When I give my time, energy, or support helping others in need gives me a sense of purpose knowing that I can and DO a difference adding to the contribution of the greater good. Feeling connected to my community.
~Anime, Watching my shows Dragon Ball Z, Cowboy Bebop, Space Dandy, My Hero Academia, Naruto Shippuden, Rurouni Kenshin, One Punch Man, TriGun, Air Gear, Appleseed XIII, Sk8 the Infinity, Samurai Champloo plus many more, like Alot more, Like Plus Ultra ALOT MORE on WCO.forever.net.
~Chess, Of course when I get the opportunity to set down versus a season player and winning and other times taking lesson and reflection on what I can do better to improve my skills at my Aurora Chess Club.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a lefty free-handed self-taught artis with twenty plus years of drawing experience. The art I create today is a blend between Abstract, Tribal, and Graffiti style with a twist of geometric shapes and patterns consist mainly of black and white as a base, with ink pen, pencil, and eraser. I use digital enhancement like Photoshop and Concep to redraw, recreate, and sharpen the lines making my lines clean & crips because I can zoom in to the maximum of 1600%. It surely was not easy to get to this point, however, I thank God I’m not where I used to be and still have so far to go! I would not trade my journey for anything in the entire multiverse. Some of the lessons I learned was to take brakes, when necessary, snacks and water is a must. Observed the details, DO NOT get stuck on them, and accidents are what ifs before thought about.

As a child, I turned to pen and paper to communicate my thoughts and feelings and used that as my safe space. When I create today listening to music, I get lost in my imagination of it, it speaks; I listen to it with having a sense of the awareness of the lines, shades and shadows as it becomes more apparent. I have come a long way and to see it first-hand the evolution and sometimes the revelations of my work. When I finish a picture all I can do is sit with it and be GREATFUL to see it.

I want to share with the world my vision of Got Love On Wheels! (Got L.O.W) In honor of my loved ones that has passed on from direct or indirect ways of active addiction. A message to you…! I am still here and the love I have for you will always continue to burn in me, through the bright spotlight and the darkness of the night in my life. You will live on in me, with me as I live my life intentionally, unapologetically, with a purpose for a purpose being very much alive in my heart until we meet again!

One of my lowest moments was in 2015, many years later when I was court ordered and ready to get help, I entered the rooms of a twelve-step program that a simple way of life has been proven to work in the lives of many addicts in recovery. Being a part of a worldwide community and fellowship, I am Never Along even when I think I AM. These feelings of regret, disappointment, unworthiness, shame, guilt and failure is all negative feelings fueling my determination to do better and be better. My feeling are not facts; however, it is a fact that I do have feelings. It is totally up to me about how I respond to them and what I do with it. There HAS been, IS, and WILL always be someone that is willing to be there to help in time of need, case and point for example this is the Mental Health Hotline call 866-903-3787 for confidential support and guidance or 988. I am an advocate for mental health receiving information through learning, studying and watching documentaries about how the brain operates. It’s amazing to me how our thoughts are conceived and transferred through the body of vibration signals, feeling of emotions turns into safety and security, fight or flight and how it all connects becoming our reality.

I will use my artwork to highlight, educate, and support the importance of Mental Health Awareness. The effects it has on children and adults with the impact it has in our neighborhoods and communities across the nation. A percentage of my proceeds I get from selling artwork or merchandise goes to this mission and vision of helping to provide care packages and resources to the people that are in need of help. I had learned that one of my purposes here is to show up, share, and encourage someone with my story of being a survivor of abuse and substance use disorder.
