Meet Denise Tallcott | Business Coach & Motivational Speaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Denise Tallcott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Denise, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I love getting to serve people. It’s beyond humbling to me to get to work with business people and discuss their professional goals and personal strengths. Through one-on-one business coaching with Denise Tallcott Leadership, we get to identify areas of opportunity and create an action plan to accomplish their deepest desires in both career and personal life. Business and life coaching is so impactful and having an accountability partner checking in on you and encouraging you along the way is so life giving. Getting to do this for a living is beyond amazing.
When there is a pain point or need, why not start a business to do something about it?! Denise Tallcott Leadership was created to help people feel their true worth, see their value and use their new mindset to empower themselves and others. This creates better leaders, parents, partners, friends, the list can go on and on.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The wooden slats creak backstage under the movement of my body. My palms begin to sweat against the coolness of the mic. I hear my name over the speakers. I feel my stomach flip in excitement. My voice, confident and steady, carries over the room. This is my happy place. Public speaking is my passion. There is not much else in this beautiful world that gives me such a feeling of excitement and energy than standing in front of people and lifting them up with a smile and positive energy. Constructing a message to best serve the audience and pour into them with confidence and love is not something I take lightly, and it is my pleasure to get to do that. Where does this passion come from you ask? I love to serve people. Through Denise Tallcott Leadership, not only do I get to speak on stages, I get to teach public speaking courses to help others feel so very confident in that. I used to have a Country Music Morning Show and loved getting to communicate and form relationships with people that way, and when I left the radio industry, I missed it.
It was at that time I chose to become certified by the John Maxwell Leadership Team. Originally in 2022, I went to conference to become a certified speaker. After listening to Business Coach Valorie Burton, I completely changed my mind and found my love of one-on-one coaching. Getting to help others find their worth and voice is the best job ever. Ahh It’s truly my pleasure to ask deep questions to people and help them find their true confidence. It’s not about me, and helping people focus on themselves is the best.
When asked what I want the world to know about my brand and story, I first want to say “our brand and story.” I could not be here today if it wasn’t for the team that is Denise Tallcott Leadership. When you get to work with us, you get to learn and know you are absolutely worthy of being loved, seeing your value and owning your truth. This is what we live by and for at Denise Tallcott Leadership- helping people find that in themselves.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
hahaha I live 10 miles from the farm I grew up on, and wow, what a pleasure. I went to school at SIU Edwardsville near St. Louis, Mo, and my goal was to be a television anchor in a big city. Then, girl meets boy at our local county fair, and I move back home after graduation and build this big beautiful life. Do I regret it? Not in the least. You can still wear heels in gravel and visit the city 2.5 hours away.
The closest town to us is Quincy, IL. When my best friend comes home, we plan our day together. We’ve gone for breakfast at this fabulous farm to table restaurant called Thyme Square, pedicures, shopping in Downtown and wine tastings at our favorite local winery, Spirit Knob winery. Then, we’ll freshen up and head back to Quincy for pizza and margs at Tower of Pizza and then listen to local music with friends at The Dock. It’s a blast. Now, this of course is the itinerary without kids. If our littles are with us, it includes back porch chats with encouragement to the kids to stay out of the sand, with a quick trip to our local ice cream shop, The Shupe Shack. Life is beautiful.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I love this so much. You’re completely right- we are who we are today because of our life experiences and mentors who pour into us. I would absolutely not be who I am today or in the career field I get to be in without others. My success is a by product of hard work, yes, but of encouragement, grace and love of others. The list of those who I want to give credit is so very long, so I’ll pick a few.
I’m beyond blessed to have a family growing up who never stunted or discouraged my ideas. Never once did my parents question why I wanted to do something or asked me if I really thought my new plan was a good idea. They ALWAYS asked me what I was going to do to make it happen. Growing up on a family farm, you see what hard work and a strong work ethic can do. And wow, did I. They continue to be encouragers day in and day out.
My sister, Deanne, is my other half. I learned a bit ago your life partner should not “complete” you, and good thing, because I was already complete when I met my husband haha. Not only does this woman encourage me, she questions me. She challenges me to question my judgements and thoughts on situations, only to make me better. She’s my confidant and best friend. Although when it comes to outfit choices, we completely differ. Anyone else send a photo to your sister of your outfit for approval, and she doesn’t approve it until you’ve already left the house in said outfit? Yeah, me too.
My husband, Jeremy, and two adorable children, Sydney and Hudson. Jeremy has shown me how to love another person through so many changes. We are not the same people we were when we met 12 years ago, yet, we’ve grown together. He’s my biggest supporter and never questioned my abilities when I decided to leave a corporate job and go on my own. What faith he has in me. I’m truly better because of him. And those kids, wow. They allow me to test what I teach and apply what I encourage others to do when it comes to word choice, asking questions and actively listening. And, they remind me it’s ok to relax and jump on the trampoline.
Finally, Teresa Loos-Tedrow. She’s been the person in my professional career who’s made me better. She’s taught me, encouraged me and loved me through so many life and business lessons. I often remind myself of phrases she’s said and apply them to client conversations or sales calls. I’m better because of her presence in my life.
